Oh yeah, make sure they know what the hell they're doing. Ask them if they've worked on Toyotas before, etc... And make sure you know what gears you're getting. $150 sounds a bit low for V6 gears.

The place in my state I mentioned earlier told me that "Yukon" gears are about the best you can get for the Toyota I beleive.

i believe precision gears are better than Yukons, but Yukons are still considered good.

To change the moniker that previously accompanied my name here...

I got front and rear done in the same price neighborhood as Phong did, dual ARB's with Precision 5.29's.

If you have a basic jack and hand tools, not even air tools, you can do this comfortably in an afternoon, esepcially on a rust free California truck.

I would suggest getting a complete third from a shop with exactly what you want in it. You ought to be able to go ARB for the rear only with that price range.

I did business with Drivetrain Direct and was quite pleased.

Precision is the Toy V-6 gear of choice for me.

Gear oil is truly a putrid smell, almost as foul as toasted clutch.

Good luck,
Adrian

i noticed no one has mentioned a breather for the rear diff/axle
does one need ot be put in or does it already have it ?

i had precision gears put in my 87 4 runner and a locrite locker , i was not impressed with the loc rite , it was the noisiestthing i had ever encoubtered. popping and clicking constintly , and i had my air pressure checked reguarly .
