Loading New Winch

Installed the new Warn XD9000 winch in the ARB. Very nice!!! Can't wait to try it outl

Question - it is recommended to respool the wire under a 500lb load. I was thinking of running most of the line out - expcept 5 wraps. attaching to a telephone pole or something else stable. Applying the parking brake - slightly and winching the rig in. Would this accomplish the intended result.

By the way - why respool the wire anyways??

Thanks for the advice.

I dont think you have to do that... Only pain in the butt part about a winch , is not letting the cable getting all messed up...

If you read the owners manual for your winch it says to unspool all the cable & respool under a slight load.

The line isn't initially wrapped under any load, so if you were to use it straight up, I could imagine that once under load, a coil from an outer layer of line could slip in between underlying coils when winching under load. You would then run into trouble trying to spool out line due to this. This is my guess anyways. Either respool like you've suggested using the pole, or do it by hand pulling on the line, should probably be enough to do the trick.

Rewinding under load does help prevent the outer wrap pulling under a lower wrap.

Do it with the pole like you said. I did mine by winching up a slight incline so I didn't have to use the brake.
