List of desired upgrades and prices

Hi, I am hoping to get a used 98 or 99 4runner soon. The Limited models seem too expensive for me, but I really love the look with the fender flares. So I was thinking of just getting an SR5 model and then adding things to it that I need. The things which I plan to add are as follows with my guessimate of what they might cost:

Limited style fender flares: $500
Painting flares (or do they come pre-painted to match?): $500
Multi-reflective headlights: $200 for the pair
Tow Hitch: $200

Do these prices seem about right, or are they too low or too high? Also, are there any online sites that I can get these at, or should I just goto my local dealer? Thanks so much.

Johnny

Limited's come with painted to match flairs. SR5's come with black wheel well trim.

Limiteds only come in Auto, FYI.

The prices for the headlights and the hitch seem about right.

Now hurry up and get that Runner! And start modding...

Whatever flare trims the SR5 model comes with, I will be getting rid of it and replacing it with the Limited style flares. Can I order the Limited style flares prepainted to match the color of the Runner, or will they come in black or some other standard color and I have to repaint them? Thanks

Good luck on the hunt for your perfect 4Runner.
Just as an FYI, I bought This hitch a while back for mine. The hitch and wiring harness were arouns $150, shipped. It doesn't stick down as far as the factory-style hitches either...

Good Luck and welcome to the forum.

Someone correct here if I'm wrong...

not sure about the flares, but I might be interested in the SR5 flares, if you end up replacing them.

cost of painting the flares will depend largely on who does it, and what grade paint process they use. I'm sure you could spend anywhere from $10 (rattle cans) to $1000 (show grade paint, multiple coats, clear coat, etc.) to have them painted.

It's been a while since I looked for the headlamps, but if memory serves me, they are abotu $225 each. Like I said, it's been a while, so prices might have dropped, or I could just be wrong.

I got my hitch installed/wired locally for $160.

SR5's are great. they don't have all the bling bling that might get crapped up offroading, plus most the limited style stuff comes off the more you get into modding and offroading so it would be a waste in my own opinion. mine came with a tow package, look for one with the factory tow package to save a little cash, maybe they won't try to up the vehicle price, hehe. also, mine came with black fender flares, just not the "limited" phat flares and definately not wheel well trim. the SR5 flares are also easier to trim and look better with larger tires than the limiteds, again, in my opinion.

FYI-
I have a hitch I'm not using. It's just taking up space.
Make me an offer and it's yours.

Let me find a Runner before I start buying parts of it. Who knows, maybe the one I find will come with one. I'll post again with what I am looking to add to it after I get it. Thanks. Anyone know where to order the Limited fender flares from?

Not to step on Jacksonpt, but I would also be interested in the SR5 flares. Let us know when and what you get. Maybe we could have a bidding war on them.

I emailed www.ToyotaParts4U.com earlier today to ask about the Limited style fender flares and they replied saying that they are not applicable on the SR5 models. Is this true? I thought they all have the same shape, so y wouldnt the fenders fit? Unless they dont want SR5 owners to make their models look like the Limited models? Has anyone done this or know anything about it? Thanks

Would you happen to know where he got those from? I just called 1stToyotaParts and they said it would fit, but drilling would be involved and the parts cost about $2000.

I didnt expect it to cost that much. If it's $2000, I might as well get the Limited model. I'm still  over this. Maybe Ron got his for less. I will try to email him and get some info. Thanks for your help.

Or you could find a 2000-2002 "Highlander" or "Sport" model SR5 like mine with the fat flairs & hood scoop they are out there.

i was browsing 1sttoyotaparts.com and i found a scoop listed under the collision category. it says $79.01. Is that just a scoop only; no hood? They also have "hood w/sport" listed for $193.43. Would that be the hood with a scoop??

The hard part about the limited flares on an SR5 will be getting the flares without also paying for the side cladding. Ron S. did both on his rig, and paid quite a bit just for the parts. He did the install himself, and said it was a PITA - all the holes that need to be drilled have to be square, and it was a very time consuming process.

I agree with the previous statement - if you absolutely must have the limited flares, get a limited. Or a 2000 SR5 - in 2000, they changed the style of the flares on the SR5 to be more like the limited flares from earlier 3rd gens.
