Lightforce lights or HID's?

The guy saying that hids are over rated obviously has never had a set. Wait til you have used one til you start telling people they are over-rated because you can't afford them. I do agree they are expensive but, once you use them you will know they are worth it. My buddy just put a set in his volvo and they make on hell of a difference. They do have a bit of light spill, but I don't think its anything bad. Ive seen hondas with a lot more light spill than his, and hes getting 4x the light output. I say get the hids, plus it won't affect your drag. And it will be easier on you alternator with using an 8th of the wattage. Though, I like the look of the lights/light bar. I think one day I want to put some projectors into my bumper and use those as my head lights... and do something cool with that. But, thats when I have extra money to burn on my truck. And that wont be for a LONG time

Cool cool, thanks every one for the imput.
Well it's looking like the HID's are going to be out of the question from what I'm hearing. I really like to follow the idea of function over form, but with a new truck, it's a little harder.
I know that the 240's will look pretty big, and quite tacky, but will perform the best, but the 170's will be better looking up front and will perform a little worse. So, is it worth it to get the 240's or should I just get the 170's and be happy?
Maybe some one with photoshop skills could do something so that I can see how big the 240's would look.

I have the lightforce 170's and love them--would have got the 240 if I could have made them fit. When I have the available funds I would like to buy a pair of the 240 blitz. I don't really like hella but you may want to check the price on HID Rally eye 4000--I have a recolection of them being around $1100 a pair..... I drive in Mexico at night and the different filters are sure neat---blue for rain, yellow for fog, and clear for normal conditions---the yellows have a filter that makes the light go real wide. With all this talk about Bozeman I hope you are doing some fly fishing.....
My vote is to go with the 240's--same bulb as the 170 but a much bigger lens--besides wouldn't you rather have more light between Spokane and Bozeman? If you get them and hate them the 170 lens will screw on--there is a lightforce dealer in Vancouver Washington who I'm sure would do the swap--he offered it to me.

I don't see how the 170's will cost as much as a HID kit, but the Lightforce's are a great light. I got them and really like them.

I took my original post down. I thought it was a good deal for what I see other people paying for the HID's. If you do an internet search you can find them for almost the same price.

I say go with hid. I bout a set of cheap ones on ebay and put them in my '01 Kawasaki ZX-12r. What a huge difference! I didn't have any problem with glare, and they still work fine after 2 years even with the vibrations from racing, wheelies, and stoppies. When other friends ride next to me, I can't even see their beam pattern on the ground. The hid's are more than functional. The only complaint I had was no high beam. As soon as I scrape a little $ together I will be putting a set of high/low's in the runner.

Here is a pic of the 240's. I just set them on the ARB bumper - they are not mounted. In fact, the ARB bumper isn't even there any more... I just set them there for a photo to show scale. They are actually going to be installed in front of the roof rack.

What brands of HID bulbs is NOT world class
Many sellers nowadays offers several brands with different price tag. Typically, HID bulbs desgined and manufactured in simple facilities will have lower quality. Most of these bulbs are made Asia. Typical signs of lower quality is non existing data sheets. The marked also has many copycats: Packaging and bulb labled Philips or Osram exists on the marked. Be sceptical if a brand name bulb is too cheap to be true. Consumers reports life to be short (less than 600 hours) and dim output.
Here is a list of bulbs in this category:
Vestec
bulbs in kits sold by Misterjung.com
bulbs in kits sold under "Bohmen"
