Lifetime supply of 95-00 tires & parts???

From what I have heard, the recalled trucks are going to the crusher. Does anybody know what the deal would be with collecting a few sets of tires or parts or a bed cap here & there from the acres of graveyards next to the dealerships?

Many of the trucks in VT have almost new snow tires on them at one of the dealerships. I'd like to scarf up a few sets of those and a nice catamount north utility cap.

Any ideas? Or is there no legal way to get these parts? I'm not really in the mood to go up there at 2 am with a jack & a few sets of bad wheels/tires.

Not to mention must be well over 1000 gallons of gas between all of those trucks.

Thanks,

~ryan

no legal way to get them. all tacos in the barn have stickers placed
prominently on the windows stating they are property of Toyota motor corp
and cannot be resold in any way, shape or form.

a dealer would not let that happen or the dealer could be in a legal jam

Well they can't crush tires and they have to do something with them. It really would be ashame if all these good parts go straight to recycling.

A lot of the guys over on TTORA are swapping on trashed tires for the buyback. Some may want to sell them:

I read through some of that.... I didn't realize it was this big of a deal. I see this guy is thinking the same as me:

So...is that saying that if I bought a truck in that year range that was used in salty areas and has a rusted through frame, and got it inspected, they would buy it.
1. Find a super cheap truck w/super rusted frame
2. Get it inspected
3. Toyota buys it from me
4. I get a non rusted taco with the $$$?

Would it work? Or do you have to own the truck for a certain amount of time? I know I could fine one around here in the rust belt lol.

No, it would not work because you had to have it registered in your name before the buyback started. If you buy one now the most you'd get back is what you paid for it.

Boy - someone doenst understand legal liability issues.

No way you are getting those parts once Toyota "buys" it.

If you think this is bad - did you see the article in Wired / WSJ on the MAZDAs that were on the ship that "tipped" in Alaska?

http://www.wired.com/science/discove...urrentPage=all

And how the cars are being "destroyed"?

At my local dealership, there is one tacoma with brand new 32x11.5 BFG tires and like 30 more with almost new 31's. i went and talked to the service manager to see if there was anyway i could grab or buy them. He said they are not allowed to take anything off and they would get in huge trouble if they did. The procedure is to remove the battery, drain the fluids, remove the gas tank, and crush them. Nothing else comes off. He was pretty pissed off about how Toyota is going about this and he thinks it is a huge waste of good parts. He said if it was up to him, i could take whatever i wanted as long as i had something to swap it with.
Time to write a letter to Toyota

yeah like stated above too much of a liability, I hate to see all those good parts go, but hopefully they will be recycled and reborn into more toyotas.
