My Lights, and Homemade Bracket

here's my set of lights (well, two sets actually). That bumper came on my Runner when I bought it. Only had tabs for two lights. Well, if two are good, 4 MUST be better, right??? So I pulled some scrap out of the pile and came up with that two tier bracket. I think it came out pretty good. Need to fine tune it a little bit, but over all it works great. On the inside I have the switches in the dash mounted onto a piece of brushed aluminium. That came out great!

Hi VooDoo, welcome here. Another FJ owner I ran with a couple weeks ago said there are factory light mounting points under the bumper cover. Makes sense, the optional Aux Lights mount there (avail early 2007). He drilled and mounted his PIAA's in short order and says they're solid. Pic here:

1st- I was thinking about the knock off's because they are 130w and they are 8".

2nd- There aren't really any other mods that I can do with a ~$100 budget i've done all the cheapies. (see sig)

psraff- aren't those the cheap "baja" truck lights from autozone? Saw them the other day looked really cheap/poorly made

calbo- How are those workin out for ya, I looked at my truck the other day and it seems like the roofrack is so far back I wasn't sure how focused the light would be.

Aren't hella 500's only 55w?? Why wouldn't you want something with say 100w or even 150w, I mean they are for OFF road right? I could see wanting 55's if you use them on the road.

because a properly designed light does not need that many watts to be effective.

Hey all I was just thinking- how much can our alternators take, would it be ok to intsall 4 130w lights with the stock alternator?

Neliconcept and roadrunner- how is your alternator holding up?

Neliconcept- what size lights do you have on your rack? How do you have your wiring set up, it almost looks like it is going through the rear door.

How do the rest of you have your lights wired?

The search light is a IPF 924 and covers the top and bottom 80°/left and right 360° controlled from a wired remote....I have no problems so far as I don't run all the lights at once for a long period of time....I use the PIAA 520s that are mounted in front most for the long trips at night.

rcars4life....
I didn't get them from autozone, but these could be the ones you were looking at. Here's a link:
http://www.rallymfg.com/V1/products.php?sc=39

For $56 a pair, and they come with all wiring, switches, and inline fuse they're ok. I'm not going to dump tons of money into this unless it's really worth it (lifts and such). But I'm happy with these. They are bright.
