WOW! I think they turned out pretty darn good. Idiot me dropped one and put a few little nicks in it, but this was a very easy process to do. This color paint matched up pretty close to the stock color. I think I will just leave it alone and not paint the inside yota sign.

I do have one problem...I only have 3 of these... looking for one more to refurb and put on my rear passenger side.

whatcha think???

FROM THIS MESS

TO THIS !

Well it is finally done!

Roof your rig looks very cool my friend!

Got all 5 mounted and balanced this afternoon.

And one of the best things with the new rims IMO is that they are now flush with the limited style flares(even though mine is a SR5)

I am really happy with how this turned out. Perfect for my uses. Not too big but not small either. Okay so that sounds kinda stupid.

This is it for me on rims and tires.

I just lightly sanded the center caps and sprayed them with a silver metalic Rustolium from Home Depot.

My LC wheels are going on tomorrow!!!
A few pics from today.

dang, that looks pretty clean. what kinda prep work did you do? any sanding or masking? looks like you just masked the exhaust & drum backing plate..did you just go nuts on it? my rear end is lookin kinda rusty too (alberta truck...lotsa snow) so id like to clean it up some also, but not sure if its crucial i mask of parts like brake cables etc etc...i just wanna spray it all HAHA

ecchamberlin: looks awesome! welcome both to the FZJ80 wheel club... who cares if 'lots of people are runnin em'...they look HOT... aaand theyre OEM! what more do ya want?

Looks nice Eric. I was going to PM you to see how the wheels worked out.

Eric, looking good bro.... I figure it will be a long long time before we see a bunch of 4runners with these wheels

Sonny, I chipped away the old bubbled up paint/rust with a flat head screwdriver and used a wire brush too... I didn't put alot of time in prep work... just got the bad stuff off and sprayed away...no masking. You gotta practice on your aim so you don't get it everywhere Use gloss black...I think it cleans up alittle better from mud, etc.

ROOFGOOF,

Do you think this color is a good match to the color of the Limited wheels (not just the center caps)? I need to retouch a Limited wheel and would like to benefit from your trial and error.

To the the Yotatech community at large, with respect to the wheel, what is the best way to prepare the surface?

Thanks. I put her out on the trails this past weekend to see how she did with the 285's. The only thing I did before hand was to remove the rear wheel flare/mud flaps that bolt to the rear bumper because I rubbed them with the 265/75's.

I had no rubbing issues and trust me I stuffed it hard. See Carvacre thread for pics.
I did not even touch the pinch weld in the front wells. It did show some signs that the front wheels touched the plastic that covers the pinch weld but did not wear on it at all. So I will pound it over anyway just to be safe. I was aired down to 14psi.

looks great bro! I kind of like it with no center caps though...

I may have to look into getting a set of these with some spacers...

4Peanut. I would say the spray I used (Rustoleum-aluminum) as seen in the picture above is close...real close, but not perfect. I would think if you are touching up something you would see the difference...Check out the photo of the cap I sprayed sitting next to my 4runner cap----its close

Good luck!

I plan to line-x or coat my front bumper from a can...then spray paint it with the above color on top of the coating...hopefully it will blend in. I may have to try a few different colors.

But if I plan to prep and spray the entire wheel and the cap, you think the paint you used is the best match, right? I'm looking to avoid having to do all four wheels, and just focus on the two witth clear coat issues. I can even put them on the same side of the car.

oh, gotcha.

I think it would match up pretty good then, especially if all on one side....I haven't done any work on painting wheels so hopefully they would turn out great. I know I was shocked how my center caps turned out...not bad at all

Keep us posted with your work...good luck.

Set of five shipped overnight from WI... only $200!!!

only 2 caps, 4 wheels have expected oldness to them for coming off a '94 LC with 180,000ish miles, 1 wheel is brown/bronze from being wherever spare was forever....

I'll be starting yet another "I just got LC wheels" thread as soon as I get pics
