know what this is? front of radiator

:pat: During my install I noticed this was broken (see pic)- the wires that is. Is this a resistor of some sort and what impact could it have mad if any to the overheating.

Just started to overheat even during short period - assumed thermostat is sticking, saw some gasket material come up in the radiator.

Bought new thermo and re-install - already did rebuild and has been doing fine so I don't think it's in the heads or water pump.

Do I need to replace this part? Is there another fix if needed?

Was blowing cold at idle - good heat when loading.

It looks like a ballest resistor. it should be in you ignition system. I would replace it.
