98 SR5 here

my keyless entry range on my "VIP" system is REALLY bad. I have to be at least within 15 feet of it to work. Most other keyless fobs I have had work at 100+ft!!!!

I changed batteries in each fob as well. Anyone have any ideas on how to up the signal strength? Its annoying when I forget to lock and arm the system and then I have to walk outside to do so rather than simply via the 2nd story window

a lot of people here have swapped out their factory alarm for a commando 870 for its great range and other features. search for 'commando 870' and you'll find plenty about it.

what you are experience is very common: the range on the rs3000 sucks. that is why many of us tore it out and just installed a new alarm.

Using the keyless system or a key, it still sets the alarm. If you have one of course. Is someone wants your car, they will take it. Keyless is very convient, you arent fumbling with keys all the time. I have a remote start that I love. I can start my truck before I get out of work and its nice and warm. My truck is still locked and the alarm is set. Keyless all the way for me.
