I have a major problem - my daughter's cat doesn't seem to get the idea that I do not want her climbing on my 4Runner. There are claw marks all over the paint as she tries to stop sliding and where she digs in to jump down. I have a cat mat (3 settings and I use the high setting) but it doesn't seem to make a lasting impression. Anyone got an idea - other than Winchester ...

 

When we moved into our first house, we decided to landscape it with some bushes in the backyard. I came home one day and found my young dogs had pulled all of them out and had them scattered around the yard. I planted them again real quick, took the screen off the master bedroom window and set my old BB gun by the window. Everytime the dogs went near those shrubs they got stung by that 15 year old BB gun. Didn't take long to get them conditioned.

Try a toy rubber dart gun. Cat's skin is thinner than a dogs.

 

Tell me more about this "cat mat" and can it be hooked to 220v??

 

i heard that if you use a spray bottle to mist a cat with water when they do something you don't want them to do that they will stop.......however my cat enjoys playing in water and even jumps into the shower with me ...... ......which was weird at first but now it is kinda cool.......she also likes to play in the dirty wet dishes in the sink and the toliet....which is weird

Have you thought about putting a rope on the cat? Like a 3 foot one tied to a post of a chair! I like the 220v idea, that sounds like that be fun!!!

My dad used to have an Acura NSX and the thing was 3 feet tall. Well we had a dog that weighed probably 60 lbs. and my dad found him sleeping on top of the car one morning -- I guess the concrete was too cold. Anyways, the NSX has an aluminum frame, and although it was covered, there was a big dent on the top. Well, he was so pissed off, and kicked the dog out of the garage. Usually he's very leniant and especially with dogs, but he was fuming. Well, the dog never slept on top of the car again. So kick your cat if you catch him in the act! Not too hard though.

We have problem cats around here.. Dang neighbors and country life... Well, one day this really annoying cat was sleeping in the rack on the roof of my truck... I had just gotten home from work and saw this.. Well I had my clipboard with me and snuck up on the little satan spawn... WHACK!! smack down on his head!! Cat never knew it was comming!! I never laughed so damn hard...... I think I broke the clip board...Yet, I never saw him up there again

 

no clue how to keep cats off cars, but on a semi related note, i took a cat to work with me the other day, and all the way back home 6 hours later,

apparently he had decided to nap under the hood, and yes the cat was alive no injurys, he was pretty upset by the time i got home and opened the hood to see what the intermittent wailing sound could be coming from


why the cat stayed under the hood for the 6 hours i was at work i'll never know:confused:

Give up. The cat will win. You'll have to kill it and your daughter won't let that happen. Once they start doing something you will never get them to stop unless you enclose whatever it is. Same problem with cats on the counters, they will stay off as long as you're there but as soon as you look the other way they get right back on. Might as well start saving for a paint job when the cat dies of natural causes. Aren't they cute...

 

Electric shock collar. Gotta put the fear of God into them once in a while. Make sure the cat doesn't know you're around when you use it, otherwise it'll figure out it only gets shocked when you're around.

 

Reading over my shoulder, my GF suggests buying a car cover. Probably a decent idea.

The cat is more than likely attracted to the heat from the engine, and will once it figures out that it won't get shooed off or zapped hit with water when you're not around will soon be back on it.

So... your only recourse may be to get a tear-stop cover for the truck.

Or, turn the cat into an indoor cat.

 

Or a garden planter...

 

Have you contacted one of the local Chinese restaurants maybe....?

 

hook up an ac-dc power inverter to your cat mat. guaranteed to stop any living creature dead in their tracks.

you might try putting a large piece of cardboard or a mat/rug/piece-of-outdoor-carpet on the area where the cat lays, it will either be pissed off with you and won't lie there anymore or if it insist on staying at least it won't be scratching the paint there any more
