Just Dynoed w/ Helix Power Tower

I did a base line dyno yesterday. 82K on the motor, Amsoil filter w/ 5" hole and elbow removed, straight intake pipe, and a fresh tune up. 143 HP & 186 TQ. With the Power Tower installed I just put out 149 HP & 184 TQ. Both runs were in second gear. Well here comes the supercharger. I'll post the results later today. If I get it all done.

Yeah I just ran it twice and the second time it made even less HP & TQ. Heat soak. I'm taking it off right now to install the Supercharger. Then I'll dyno, put the spacer back on and dyno again.

Just an FYI, but it's better to dyno at a 1:1 final drive ratio. On a manual that's usually 4th on an auto it's third. If you ever shift on the dyno you'll notice you get different/better numbers in higher gears.

'99 5vz auto trans. There's a pic in the members rig's. I didn't have good luck trying to dyno in 3rd. I had to get the speed up so as it wouldn't down shift. I was doing like 100-110 and it started cutting out. If you know of a way to elminate the down shift let me know, but I can't dyno it again as I'm half way through installing the supercharger.

Yeah the "trick" with the auto is turning off OD so it won't go into 4th and starting the dyno above 70 mph so it won't downshift. I say 70 because on my truck if I'm above 70 it won't kick down to 2nd gear, but it may be different on yours.

Thanks for the dyno info, it's nice to have some numbers to go with the myths.

Edit: So you're saying you can get up to 110 mpg in 3rd and hit the limiter? The highest I've been able to go in third is about 105 before it hits redline. What size tires do you have, I'm up 1 size and that may be the dif.?

For the 3rd gens. the V6 is the 5vz-fe and the I4 is the 3rz-(something).

Is there a typo somewhere here? The 5vz-fe V6 puts out 190hp stock. The 3rz or whatever 4cy puts out 150hp stock. How are you getting less HP than both of these engines with the mods you have? Am I missing something?

Those horsepower numbers that he got from the dyno are probably measured at the wheels, unlike the Toyota (190 and 150 hp) figures that are measured at the crankshaft.

It is generally considered that a manual absorbs around approx. 15% and an auto 20% of the power. If you have a 4wd, the transfer case eats up a little more but i have not heard any figures for it. So your .8 should give a good rough estimate for an auto tranny...

I have 285/60/18 tires. I think they are 31.5" tall. Thanks for the tips on the dyno. Maybe later today I'll dyno the supercharger. This thing is sick.

Dude, you work for Titan and you're using an SC? How come you don't have a big single on there? I just saw pics of your guys new trailer out in Texas, that thing is nice. Best of luck with everything.

Thanks man

Yeah I was going to be there but, I have 4 big projects right now and two of them are very close to completion. Supra's are fun I just wouldn't want to drive a 600+ car on the street everyday.
