Just bought a 95 and A/C issues already...
I was wondering if there was a A/C common problem on high mileage 4runners. Like the evaperator valve going out or something. To let you in on what happen...I had my A/C off going home from work, when I started to get a little hot so I turned it on...Nothing but hot air. When I got home I looked underneath the hood and it sounded like the compressor clutch was kidding in, but still no cold air. Well this morning boom it was working again. Kind of sounds like the evaporator valve to me. What do you guys think. I blows colder than my 02 TL-S I just sold. Just when it wants to.
Thanks,
Jeremy

It might just be the coolant. I don't remember what the 2nd gens use. The 3rd gens use R-134a. If it uses R-134a, its pretty easy to recharge yourself. You can get a kit from just about any auto store.
However, if it still uses freon, you will have to have a professional do it. I don't believe freon is readily available at any autostore.
