Junkyard Research: 2002 4runner

Hey guys,

This is more of a research question then anything else. I live in North NJ a few minutes out of Newark. I am a slight noob when it comes to junkyards, as i really don't have exposure to them.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any decent yards around my area or how to locate the right type of yard. I have called some looking for specific parts and they were unable to help me. Am i doing something wrong?

NJ is a lousy state for junkyards in recent years. The ones I used in the 70's and 80's closed. I had a chat with the owner of one near me and she said the environmental regs are so brutal that they keep only the fastest moving models. So 05 Camry yes, '99 4Runner, no. There are some good yards out 78 into PA and also in MD.

Fortunately, my 4Runner has only needed wear parts I'd rather have new. My experience dates from an '85BMW I junked 3 years ago.

Here is a good used parts locator. www.mypartshop.com

I suggest you plug in your part and zip and go from there. Filter for NJ first, and if you come up empty, filter for PA and MD and see how much more you get.

if you need a part, go to car-part.com and look up 02 4Runner. There is a ton. Me and Rock Slide found canisters that way. Works great.
