Jerky Cruise Control?

FYI/FWIW on my 98 TRD the cruise was jerky when setting/resuming/coasting, turned out that the cable had quite a bit of slack. The adjustment now is about 3/4+ and cruise is much smoother...

How did you make the adjustments?
Mine only feels jerky if I press cancel or coast once it is already set.
How did you tell if there was extra slack? simply visually?

Also FWIW, I had a GM that had a speedo cable that would bind occasionally causing the cruise control (and me) to through fits...

visual, I noticed it when I removed my throttle body to clean and replace the D shaped gasket.

When setting the cruise there was always a delay, to make a smooth transition to cruise I had to hold my foot on the throttle longer. If I didn't the truck would slow down and then kick in causing it to have to throttle back up. Same for resume and coast as the system measures speed when you hit the switch and the the slack caused a delay.

Adjusment is easy, on my truck the cable comes from the passenger side, adjust like a throttle cable.
