Jacob's or Plasma?

Hi guys, new to this fourm but I've been lurking a while. I'm considering implementing one of the ignition system mods and pretty much have narrowed my options to the Jacob's Ignition Pro Street or the Plasma Booster.

I know the Plasma Booster has gotten some good ink from a few of you who have tried it recently, but I really can't find input from anyone who has tried the Jacob's system. Anyone out there who has tried both? And could compare/contrast the pros/cons of going with one over the other. Cost seems to be the most obvious difference up front, but I'd be willing to pay more for more pronounced results.

What am I expecting? I'd like to see a mod that gets me good results both in terms of HP gain and in gas milage improvement.

Also -- would the two work well together??

Thanks for you input.

Ed

I have the Jacobs. Check my site for what I think about it.

I would recommend for you to try the Plasma, just because nobody else has. I'm eager to see how much of a difference it makes on a 3.0. If you do it, make sure you get new plugs, wires, and dist. cap & rotor, so you'll feel the full effects.

Thanks Chris.

Any other opinions on the Jacob's system?

I had the Jacobs ingnition system the OMNI pack I believe. I even ordered the wires. I worked great for just over 3 years. Then it went out on me on my way to work one morn.
The good thing was that it didnt take long to repair, so I was back on the road in about 15 minutes. (it took me a while to figure out)
My advise. Just go with the plasma.

Short form: I love it. I'll be getting dyno results on Saturday.

Regarding using the Jacobs and the PB together, there was some quick talk about it in that thread above and it looks like the pair won't be any better than one or the other solo.

Thanks Mark -- yeah, that thread is really what got my wheels spinning. I even called and spoke to Ulf. I read that review you linked to the Jacob's system, but I'm looking to get some more opinions. Nothing like a little more anecdotal evidence to make me feel falsely secure about how I torch my money.

Can't wait to hear about the dyno results. Keep us posted.

Hi Ed;

Yeah, I figured you saw that, I just wanted to make sure that Chris knew that someone had installed a PB.

Can't get anything past you, huh Mark?

In my post above, I meant nobody has installed one on a 3.0. I'm sure there's a difference between running one on a SOHC engine vs. a DOHC engine. What I thought was interesting is how much of a difference you noticed once you installed it. I don't think my experience was as good as yours.

Looking forward to seeing your dyno results though. Are you going to do a run with it unplugged also?

Ed, sorry... didn't mean to jack your thread. Unless you can find a Jacobs unit in good shape on eBay, I wouldn't bother with it because the Plasma is much cheaper brand new and seems to work just as well.

Oops.. Sorry Chris, I guess had I thought about it I knew that you were referring to a 3.0.

The SOHC vs. DOHC is an interesting point - I don't know enough to comment on why...

Dyno wise... yeah, I'm gonna do a number of things. The way the shop works is that you get unlimited runs to set a baseline. Once the runs come up the same a couple of times in a row, then you're done. I'm gonna swing a deal with them to let me do a couple of more past that. My baseline will be with the PB and the SMT piggyback disconnected. Then I'll add the SMT, then the PB. That should give me three sets of data to post up - I just need to find a scanner.
