ISR Mod Sound Clip

This ISR mod is starting to get tempting. Can someone who has done it and has the capability, get a sound clip from inside the cab during hard and normal accleration. Maybe Corey could host it on his site. It'd be nice to hear just how loud of a roar this thing makes. Later.

Its not incredibly loud. If you have ever ridden in a Honda or Subaru with an intake then you know what it sounds like. It is very similar to this sound. Like a low hum.

The ISR mod does not really make much of a noise when you're just cruising around town and stuff. The only time you can really hear it is when you're at WOT (wide open throttle) in which case you'll hear a soft growling/buzzing type of sound.

I will try and get a sound clip for you. But Dr. Z has to agree to convert the QT over . One thing worth noting: My old 98 Tacoma 3.4 was significantly louder than my "new" 96 3.4. The Tacoma was Auto and the 4Runner is a 5 speed. Also, the HP numbers are a little different. 190HP for the Taco, and 183 HP for the 4Runner stock. Fuel maps, timing and injector size from Toyota have something to do with the HP difference I believe.

If I can describe the sound to anyone, I would tell them it sounds like a cow mooing under the hood.

From all of the posts about this thing, it sounds like the sound can get really loud when gassing it hard. Would a layer of Dynomat, or some sound/vibration suppressing material, on the hood help "tame" the sound of the ISR mod some? After thinking about it, I really don't see where removing the silencer is any different than the K&N FIPK. They both seem to be "straight, clear path to the engine" intake mods. How loud is the ISR compared to the FIPK? Later fellows.

Take a look at gadgets site (gosh I say that a lot) regarding the K&N. If I remember right, it lost HP. We might have to run some DOE (Design On Engineering) tests to figure out exactly why that is. It could be filter design, tube design, diameter of tubing...etc.

The question this raises is: Why drop $200+ on a FIPK, when you can have better HP #'s for around $10? (Elbow removal, ISR mod(s))?

I've read Gadget's site and the reviews on the FIPK. I realize the overall consensus is that it provides no benefit. I do not want an FIPK. My question was about the noise level. In theory, removing the silencer and installing the FIPK are similar. I mean, if you have an FIPK then you don't have an intake silencer. This ISR mod does seem like it will boost the horses, but I'm worried about the noise. I like the way my Runner sounds with the deckplate open. It makes it sound like a truck. But, this ISR seems like it will make the Runner sound REALLY loud and seems like it might get annoying. I was thinking that some Dynomat or some other sound suppressing material applied to the under side of the hood, might help suppress some of the noise inside the cab without the silencer. Opinions?

Ok, well that's what I was responding to. Guess I misunderstood what you were asking.

Why dont you try the mod, then reverse it if you dont like it?

Matt, The increase in noise from doing the ISR mod is about half that of the increase of doing the deckplate mod. The noise level increases about 1.25-1.75 times. Its not really noisey and if you liked the way the deckplate made it sound you will like the way the ISR mod makes it sound. No need for dynomat.
