I have an '88 5 speed 4Runner that needs a new center console and shifter boot. Can/has anyone used a later model console in their first Gen? How much work is it to swap out and what years should I look for to make the process as easy as possible? Anyone have a grey set-up? Thanks in advance for your information.

Don't know anything about the 1st gen but many 3rd gen trucks (96-98) have upgraded their center consoles to the newer 3rd gen consoles (99-02) mainly because of the cupholders. Since no one has chimed in and I know there are a bunch of gen 1's on this board, hopefully getting this post to the top may help...
