Intake question

I recently did a modified version of the deckplate mod with a K&N drop in filter on my 86 22re, but I came up with another idea, I want to retain my stock air box, so I tried running 3in I.D. tubing from my air box to my throttle body, the problem is that my truck will not idle and sounds like it is overloading, it is very difficult to adjust the idle on it. I am wondering if I will have to adjust my tps or afm? Could you guys give me some input on this matter?

i would say start all over and do it the way everyone else has. if you have to go thru all of that just to get the same results why not stick to what has been done? or will you come out ahead this way?

Are you positive there aren't any leaks between the AFM and throttlebody? Having a leak will cause idle problems.
