Intake mods vs. Aftermarket Intake

i recently performed all the intake mods on my 01 4Runner. i am happy with the results but unfortunately my wife, who drives the truck more the i do, doesn't like how loud it is high high RPM and heavy load situations. so far she is learning to deal with it. but i was wondering if anyone had experience with these mods (deck-plate, silencer removed, fender tube delete) and also an aftermarket kit such as AEM or AFE? were the any quieter and were there any noticeable performance differences?

I noticed a slight increase in response and acceleration above 3600rpms when you can definitely hear the air coming in through the deckplate. Just screw the deckplate in when she's going to be driving it. I want to do the ISR mod too, but it's just on my list.

Maybe she needs to adjust her driving skills as the only time I need to floor it that hard is merging on a very short on ramp.

yeah I agree.. I have done both the isr and deckplate,, and its only loud when WOT. doing 2k shifting its really softer and not as loud.. conservative driving helps the gas mileage anyways.

I've got an aftermarket Injen intake, and it screams at WOT. It's got a nice grumble otherwise if anything at all. I would stick with the deckplate and switch it out like others suggested - if you go full intake, there's no quieting it down. I've actually been thinking of getting rid of it and just doing a deckplate, so there's my two cents!
