hey all

im in teh process of replacing my head gasket in my 86 runner (22re). so far ive got the radiator, fan, exhaust manifold stuff, and valve cover.

ive so far got the bolts connecting the 2 peices of manifold off as well as the fuel thing on the side closest to interior and all hoses off of it but it wont budge!!!!

are there any bolts or anything on the inside of the intake manifold "curve".
im trying to make my job as easy as possible by leaving all the hoses connected but it looks like im going to have to take them all out to reach stuff.

There's a bolt next to the thermostat housing w/ an Allen head.

 

and then i can release the top half of the intake manifold?

That Allen head bolt actually holds the lower intake to the head. Off the top of my head, the only thing the holds the upper intake in place is the 6 bolts on the side and the support bracket underneath. Obviously the EGR pipe and cold start injector pipe both need to come off too..

 

the cold start pipe is the one gas line thing on the nearest the valve cover?

yea i thought i should hold off onthat becuase im dealing with gas. should i drain the gas tank at all when dealing with the fuel rail?

 

There's no need to drain the gas tank.

sorry for the ?'s (i really need my chiltons and factory manual) but is it common for the top half to be "sealed" after 18 or so years of not being touched?

 

I would imagine it'd be a PITA to break the "seal" if it's never been taken apart.
