i installed a white one in my 90 with a 22re and it worked great... idk if 88 would be dif or not?

 

I just installed a white one in my tranny and the blue one in my T/C also replaced the shifter socket cap for the tranny. Made a huge difference! Well worth it! Call Marlin< they can make sure you get the exact one for your year.
