Installed KENWOOD eXcelon KDC-X492/Audiocontrol Epic 150
I installed my new head unit a Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X492
(AUX 3.5MM front, front USB port w/iPod control/mass storage capable jump/thumb drives, 3 sets of 4 volt pre-outs(front, rear, sub) dual zone(can play usb,cd,radio or aux on front speakers and on the rear separately), internal eq, high/low pass crossovers, bluetooth,
I got the unit on Ebay for $109.99 and free shipping, I wanted this because of all the features and when I put my 8 Kicker 10's in here I think the player might skip so the AUX and USB will come in handy and I will be using 2 amps HIFONICS XX-JUPITER 4 Channel Amplifier and a HIFONICS XX-COLOSSUS Super Class-D Subwoofer Amplifier so the internal eq and crossover and 3 sets of pre-outs will be nice
and my Audio control EPIC 150 (bass restoration, voltage meter, internal mic(measuring db)

ha.. I just bought that same deck (off ebay from Sonic Electronix) and sent it back a week later... It sounded good for a week, then it broke. It wouldn't play CD's or read a USB anymore.
I'm not saying they are junk. They aren't, I have two other vehicles and both have a Kenwood. But I seemed to have gotten a bum one. Too, bad because I liked it. Now I have a Sony on the way.

How do you like that EPIC-150? I miss my original Epicenter I had back in the late 90's. That thing would make pretty much any music slam like a Bass Track CD.

I really like it it has the meter built in and it's very close to a Termlab mic about 2-5 db difference I plan on running db drag racing bass race so having and in car meter for tuning will help me greatly and I have a Termlab mic also, and the voltage meter helps me see what my voltage is doing the bass restoration help out on old pre 90's music as for as adding bass where it is needed

Ya most people I've talked to say the Epic's SPL meter reads about 5db higher than a TL, but its a great tool for finding peak frequencies.
Bass Racer huh? How many/what batteries are you running? I've been thinking of gettin into Bass Race, I had a Olds Aurora before this 4Runner so it wasnt a great Bass Racer, I just burped test tones from the trunk.
What frequencies does the 4Runner cabin resonate at? I've got my setup from my old car and the box is tuned to that cabin so its not ideal yet. Havent had time to really find out what sounds good in the 4Runner though.
What subs/Box are you going to run? One thing about Bass Racing, you gotta keep your voltage up, Even with my current setup I have trouble keeping voltage up above 12v with the tiny 4Runner alternator.

I've heard good things about the Kinetik Batteries for Bass Race. They have lots of reserve power. They arent the best for all out one second SPL, but bass race & Daily Driving they do pretty well. I'd go for a 1800 in front and a 2400 in back with the amp though. I have two Odyssey 2150's in back & a 1500DT in front and my voltage drops pretty bad on just a Digital Designs M3 (approx 3000 RMS real world). I've gotta hook up the batteries to a charger everynight cause the alternator cant charge them in the short trips I make.
8 - 10's should be nice. I'm guessing a sealed box then? Are you gonna make a wall or lay em in the back?

I'm gonna build and ported box and it will not be a wall, the battery situation is still up for review I might get another battery and have two............
