Ignition Switch

I lost the only key to my wife's 99 4 runner limited. Is it possible to replace the lock and make it run. i got another key from the dealership, but it need a chip because it won't start. Is there a way to bypass the chip computer, or can I put in an earlier year to make it work. Help, my wife says I don't leave the house until I find the key.

have you ask the dealer to see if they can program it by pulling up your VIN#?

that doesnt make any sense? they usually can make a key from your VIN number and it will be cut the same way your old key was, I dont even have my original key for my 01

are you sure it has a chip in it? I didn't think that year had chips. Even though the key might have a rubber grip, doesn't necessarily mean it has a chip. Did the spare key have a rubber grip on it?
