Ignition Coil??

I have a 1996 4Runner Limited 3.4L V6, and it is misfiring when the engine has a misfire under high loads, such as going uphill (big problem here in Austin, TX), and overdrive for top gear. I have recently replaced the spark plugs and the plug wires, so my next theory is that is the three ignition coils need replacing. I have a buddy with a voltage tester, but we got no accurate readings; 1.6-1.8 ohms on the primary side, and no reading on the secondary for every coil. On account of the vehicle has 213K miles and the ignition coils are still original from the factory, is that a good assumption? Has anybody had this issue or one similar and what did you replace? Don't want to spend the 160+ on all new coils if I can avoid it...

Do you have a CEL on? Mine just started to miss yesterday about 10 miles from home and got progressively worse the closer I was to home. Had the CEL flash and then stay on, few miles down the road started flashing and finally stayed on. Checked it today and I have a P0306. I searched and found a good thread on this: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/3...r-hour-124900/
I'm going to pull plugs this weekend and also move some coils. I have a spare set just in case I have a bad one but according to the thread above it's most likely a plug, wire issue or coil issue. Man I hope it's something simple as I'm having some problems with my flexplate and can't deal with anything major right now.

Thanks for the thread that was helpful and all the problems seem to be the same with me. To answer your question, my check engine light does occasionally come on, but goes away as well. I am going to start with the coils and see what difference if any it makes. Best of luck to yours, and hope it isn't something more severe. Now to look around for cheap coils...

how about o2 sensors? replaced any of them recently? they should b replaced every 100k at least... 70k would b even better. I have seen worn o2's cause these issues b4, and not throw a code for o2...
Gotta remember... just because the cel dont say o2, dont mean they are fine....

My 93 4runnerwill not start, I pulled the starter and had it checked and it was fine so I put it back in and found out that there is no spark coming out of the new coil. I am puzzled where to go from here
