on my 03 4runner V-8, will I be able to tow more than 5,000 lbs or is that limit imposed by the tow hitch, chassis, shocks, etc...?

wont make a diff. 5000 is max, 3500 is more reasonable, at least on 3rd gens.

 

Towing capacity is limited more by safety issues than engine power. Limiting factors are hitch strength, braking, tranny cooling, etc.

Wouldn't recomend adding more... The biggest concerns are not getting up to speed these days. Engines are more powerful than ever. Its brakes that are usually the limiting factor. In my opnion you can never have too much brake power. Thats why the first thing I did to my truck was put powerslot rotors and carbon metalic pads. I noticed a bit more grip than previously, and I have yet to warp these (a big plus for me). Oh yeah, and if you get the chance, take gadget up on his offer. He will forget more about thsoe superchargers than I will ever learn.
