I want more volume. I wanna keep my VORTEX. Could I cut off my cat and run a pipe through it? If I did that and welded it back on, it wouldn't be working, it would just be a decoy. And what would I have to do to my O2 sensor to make it work right?

Maybe it's just me but running no cat or talk of it CAN be touchy subject....that's all and that's based on previous threads, other than that, no comment, wait...actually from what I've read there is NO reason to run without a cat because in effect running a newer cat it would be higher flow. I could be wrong but really I'm trying to convince you to KEEP YOUR CAT ON AND IN USE!....PLEASE!

 

my cat got clogged so i unbolted it and knocked all the stuff out of it and bolted it up again as a pipe. it sucked. i lost a lot of power.

i have since put a new magnaflow on there. much better.

 

You have to ask yourself why the cat's in there in the first place. And why it's against the law to remove it.

All i will say is that i am just going to get a high-flow cat off ebay for $50.

Also unless you have a supercharger taking the cat out will make you lose a LOT of power.

 

How big is your piping before and after your muffler. Even increasing the pipe size by 1/4" will give you greater volume. I have read if go too big or you will run into back pressure issues.

 

you could just hole saw it through lol. As for lose of power it would only be lost from the start but as for high rpm he would gain power. For the O2 sensor it wont affect your performance but you will throw a code. check out http://www.urdusa.com/product_info.p..._id=1230100014 they sell a O2 sensor simulator for doing this. Why do you want to run no cat? do you have a supercharger? best thing to do would probably be high flow cat

 

ran my 22RE in my old 90 4runner with a header 2 1/2" pipes a punched out cat and a glasspack, i noticed a big power gain after i punched th cat out

as for the 02 sensor, if its b4 the cat, u should have no problems, if its after, go with a high flow cat

he has two O2 sensors one pre for the A/f ratio and one post to monitor if the cat is good or bad

 

Removing the cat isn't worth the power gain for what your putting out in the environment. And plus you aren't driving a sports car.

But hi-flow would be your best bet. I had a flowmaster one on my vdub and got 2-3 beter mpg and some more power

 

Not sure, it is a $50 one off ebay. I have not got it yet, just picked it out (waiting for the headers to do th rest of the exahust)

 

In california they are starting to do smog street test where they pick out cars randomly smog test them and if you dont have a cat they will tow your car

 

It all comes down to one thing. It's still just a 3.4 liter. You won't notice a big difference by removing it unless it's getting clogged. I do believe that high flow ones would be better, but by punching it out your risking messing with the back pressure that your rig was designed to run with. My.02
