That is just the price of Supercharging it, that price was for building the engine right.

If price is no object, then overhual the engine with forged internals. pistons, rods. Then go to work on the head, P&P, new valves, cams, springs. Then headers and an open exahust.

Then put a SC on it with a 2.1 or 2.0 pulley, URD 7th, meth injection, maybe even a cryO2 system.

That will put you up at around 300hp at the wheels. but will cost you a LOT, we are talking $5000 - $10,000, which is more then your truck is worth and more then you could ever sell it for.
Yes, 10 grand is about right for all that. if anything it is a little on the low side.

If your budget is high why not go for the 4.0 or diesel swap? From what i understand the 4.0 has more power and comparable efficiency. I really don't see the sense in dumping an excessive amount into the internals of the 3.4. In the long run you would be better off with a different engine. Going to that extent you might as well go for the diesel. Seems like they would be more avalible in your area.

You are correct, swapping a differnt engine is a better bet for more power for less $$$.

though the 4.0 just won't fit in our trucks, it is just to big.

But fitting a V8 has been done without too much trouble, there was one just a few streets over from me for sale not too long ago with a chevy 350.

Personally if i was to swap engines i would get a 3.0 turbo diesel, you can do some minor upgrades with the turbo and get a lot of power out of them and better MPG too boot.

Only reason i got my SC is because it was too good of a deal to pass up.

Belize off Road Team: Where do you get high grade octane down there? I was in Placencia, BZ a couple of months ago and all I saw was low grade and diesel. You're gonna need at least 92 for that s/c.

P.S. I love it down there, nothin but hot sun, cold Belikin and the smell of Hilux's burning diesel...love it

1uz--compact--well balanced---and all aluminum--weighs about the same as a 3.4. Now that i think of it--i should have done that instead of getting my 3.4 built......

VERY good point, you MUST use high oct gas, at least 92. no if's, and's or but's.

Yeah that is a good engine indeed for high HP, though for a truck the 5vz has a lot more low end tourqe. so i think you made the right decsion with rebuilding.

I run 91, although sometimes in higher elevations its hard to find higher than 90 octane. You don't have to use 92, but it would be nice.

You don't have knocking with 91? wow, here anything less then 93 and most people get knocking in the summer.

I know of a few people with turbo/supercharged cars with this problem.

Now in the winter it is not as big of a deal.

Technically speaking, you don't need to run high-octane fuel if you're able to dial the timing advance way back (with an FTC) and can keep an eye on your engine's EGT's. Overall the engine will take a big hit in power if you do this though.

A BIG hit in power.

I actually thought i blew my RX7 engine due to the Crank angel sensor screw coming lose and the sensor spinning a few degrees.

Those few degrees meant i could bearly get on the highway, much less it have any kind of speed.

FWIW, I am in the Rockies and we have nothing higher than 91 (premium). Did not notice any kind of knock with 91.

I run 91 as well and don't have ping problems (but I have also tuned my FTC to eliminate all ping). You can't find anythihng higher than 91 octane around here because of the altitude, I think 93 as premium is usually only available near sea level.

Not that I can hear anyway. I retarded the timing with the FTC to stop it. I can't remember the last time I saw 93 at a gas station. Although we used to have a station that had race gas at about $7/gal (something like 101).

Oh and my budget is pretty high for this project so i want best of the best.
If you want the best for your 3.4L stick to the basics. Deckplate mod, AFE or any drop in filter. For spark plugs go with stock or spend some coin on Denso Iridiums. They will not add any power but they will last longer. Replace the stock muffler with Magnaflow or Flowmaster and call it a day.

When it comes to upgrades for the 3.4, you can't beat being blown:
i have the same setup, aside from the nose of the supercharger...what is that red part?

Yeah, and without reading that thread i can tell you that it took a LOT of custom work to get it to fit. You CAN fit anything into any car/truck if you have the skill and $$$$.

But for the price and diffuculty of doing a 4.0 swap why not doa much easier V8 swap? There are many to chose from that are much easier, or even a supra swap.

I do notice that it is much higher then a normal engine off the bat. That took some custom work.

Though i would still drive it, add a supercharger and then you have some real fun! I have seen a 400hp 4.0
