I really got stuck in the mud!!!

I really got stuck in the mud a few weeks ago. It was a real truck trap. Some guys came by and helped pull me out with a tow rope.

How could I have pulled myself out of a situation like this by myself without a winch? I mean after I had gotten stuck? I used the rear locker and had it in 4x4 low. The mud was not thick where I was stuck, really soft, but the bottom was hard.

Thanks
Bill

wow that is really stuck. I don't think it would be possible for you to get out of that alone without a winch. The best medicine would probably be prevention!

it looks like your rear got high centered more than anything. That alone can make it harder to get out. But yea.. all the above

Thanks for the replies. I've driven this road before in my Civic, but it has rained and rained here in San Diego. Yes, the rear was high centered and also the front a little bit. It was not too hard for a guy in a ford 150 to pull me out, what I mean is he did not have to pull really hard.

I could have driven around, but on the other side was a deep, brick well and a steep slope. It seemed like I could just drive through. Lots of guys have gotten stuck including the border patrol.

The water storage is from lioncountrysupply. http://www.lcsupply.com/Product/Dog-...WaterTube.html

Man that is bad stuck, looks kinda soupy in spots.Agree with the tire comments, they look like pavement only treads. How quickly did you bog down? Hope you rinsed well underneath after that and greased. How long before the ford came along did it sit like that?

I was stuck for a couple hours and I did rinse well underneath after. What should I have greased? The zerk fittings? How about the rear drum brakes?

I bogged down pretty fast. I did not really did down far and it was really, really soupy.

What kinda tires are good for this kinda mud, mud terrains? Lots of different brands?
Thanks
Bill

Been stuck worse than that! Wish i had some pictures other than my garbage cell phone pics... 3 different trucks tried to pull me out, it took a 3/4 ton chevy in 4lo on pavement to get me out!

Yeah you should shoot some grease in all the zerks. Not sure about the brake drum.Falken High Country A/Ts (31")is what I run. Some of these guys in here run the Goodyear Duratracs, they to are a most excellent tire.

Mud is the enemy of all moving parts and that nice truck of yours looks like a DD.Offroading is fun but be sure you maintain as hard as you play. There is a wealth of info on this forum and the search engine is your trucks best friend.

thats a nice stuck billins, i run Goodyear Wrangler MTr they like and work well in mud. and I have been in a similar situation, except in a m1114 humvee, it was sand on the bottom and ruts deeper than a 37.5" tire. the only tow truck we have is a 64k lb 7ton which is what pulled me out. it was quite the site. i had picks on my phone but they are no longer. didnt have a camera at the time.

Sounds crazy but since we are kinda on the topic of M/T's, I have a set of used Definity Dakota 31X10.5s with about 1/4 tread on them and while at raush creek park here in pa they did really well in the mud. I would not hesitate to get a set of these brand new. They are inexpensive compared to alot of other M/T's out there. THey are only available at PepBoys.

No, the truck is not a daily driver. No, I usually do not get into messes like that. In fact I had driven the same dirt road in my Civic lots of times, of course when it was dry. I do not think I can ever dry that road with the Civic again unless it gets graded.

Yes, I could use some new tires, these have some tread left and I was planning on getting some MTs.

I honestly did not even throw any recovery stuff in the truck. I was really shocked how muddy and wet it was there. It's been raining off and on here in San Diego for months and months.

I also really underestmated the road, since I had driven it so many times on my Civic. And when I drove out, I thought nothing about it, because it seemed really easy driving up, even though I had it in 4x4.

Thanks for the replies.

buy yourself a hi lift jack, a good heavy duty lugall, a folding or shorty shovel, a tow strap and a length of chain and either an axe, chainsaw or throw a few pieces of fire wood in he back and youll be about as capable of self recovery as you can get. a winch would be nice but should not be had until the above items are collected. winches can fail and thats when you do it by hand. and i agree a good set of quality mud tires. dont go the cheap route the extra money you save buying cheapos imo is not worth it. you get what you pay for for the most part and i think a nice bfg mt would suit you wonderfully and a few items of recovery gear and youll be very prepared. nice to hear you have a locker too
