My damn spring broke in my shift tower and I think thats why im constantly popping out of first.

Went by the dealer and of course they say I have to buy the whole tower...but 95-96 is no longer produced....So anyone know if the 97-04 shift tower will work?, Same trans... Didnt want to spend a hundred to find out. I really just need the spring ...Ideas???

The way you worded it sounds like you have already taken it apart? If not I would guess that it is the shift seat as those tend to wear out, popping out of first and sloppy shifting are signs the shift seat has grenaded or needs replaced.

I did take it apart. The spring is toast, broke in the middle. I ordered a seat kit from Marlin and B&M is nice enough to send me the spring for free, BTW they no longer offer the short shifter for 95-04.

Im crossing my fingers this takes care of my issuue...will update.

I rebuilt my shifter, including the bushing and a new spring and its all tight. My truck continues to pop out of 1st gear violently. I really cant even drive it like this.

Anyone have any other suggestons? Could I need my tranny rebuilt with only 175k miles? I have maintained it and never beat it.
