I May Have Really Done it This Time....
While trying to diagnose a potentially open fuel injector on my 2001 3.4, I hooked up a small 12v bulb with two leads to the FI plug to see if it was pulsing or constant. At any rate, I think one of the wire grounded to the manifold and now I can't get the engine to turn over at all....and the OBD2 scanner now gives me a linking error...?
I still have full function on most everything else as far as i can tell....dash lights, blinkers, wipers, blower, radio etc.etc.
And since i also have a 1999 4runner, I tried switching the starter relay, EFI relay, several main fuses etc. Also pulled and checked every fuse in the outside and inside panel and known were blown?
is there a way to check the ECU to see i fried it?
What else can i check?

Pull the ECU out, and remove the two covers. Chances are, if you smoke-checked something, you'll be able to see it visually. Failed capacitor, it's bulging, failed just about anything else, it'll be burnt. Probably will have a burnt run or two as well. Visually obvious. If you're a good solderer, a new component and some run repair isn't all that hard. If you're not, new ECU.
Does that help at all?
