I found the problem

I found the problem
It died because the pickup coil came apart inside the distributor. When I pulled the cap off there was shredded fine copper wire around the distributor shaft the windings in the pickup coil came out of the assembly. Has this ever happened to anyone? Is this common or is there some other underlying problem? Thanks for reading and any advice you have?
