I would not reuse drain plug gaskets of any kind. I did that once (on accident) and low and behold, a drip started.

Besides, are you going to wait 30K miles to change the reused gasket with a new one if it drips?

Like a couple guys said, any gasket will do. Just pick some up at the local auto store.

I have had to dremel out store gaskets in the past to make the hole big enough for the bolt. Worked perfect, no problems.

Can't help it man!! The world is spinning, getting dizzy....Moe, Larry cheese!

On another note, you have the coolest color of Runner ever made. They are very rare. I looked forever before settling on my second choice a '02 Black Sport.

I know, I traded the '02 for an '03 Black Sport-No Stellar Blue in the '03 models.

I was lucky, my local service dept. sucks but their parts guy knew what gaskets I wanted and had what I needed in less than 3 minutes.

I had fun getting a new 3rd member gasket. The guy stood their scratching his head.... I had to explain what a 3rd member was. Then when he had it on his screen looking at the part.... he still stood there for a few minutes then asked, "that thing??". YEAH, NO HURRY UP AND GET IT!

I went to NAPA first.... as far as they are concerned, there IS NO GASKET. They said, "it's not in the book" then rung up my gear oil and didn't even try and help me figure it out. And to think... I might actually start working for NAPA here soon since they are hiring and my current job sucks. It's hard finding jobs to work around my college schedule......

Had a similar experience at Autozone recently. I went in for an inner oil seal for the rear axle (yay!). Asked the counter monkey for a "timken #1960". CM told me they don't carry Timken parts any longer. I asked him to look up a Toyota rear axle seal for my 4Runner and see if they carry ANY brand seal. Sure enough, when he looked it up, it was a Timken 1960. He goes to the back and brings me two new Timken seals. Moron.

I must say that I LOVE my local dealer...they are honest, helpful and VERY knowledgeable when it comes to parts. The head mechanic James was nice enough to take me back in the shop while the truck was up on the lift and explained to me what was goin on with the manifold. I am calling them today to see if I can get some help on figuring out what is wrong with my mileage...I will probably end up leaving it there and having my 02 sensor checked/replaced and having my cat checked out. I am just going to ask them to check it over completely and see what they can find.

There is one guy there, Logan, he knows EVERY part number I could possibly need for my car. And he is FAST...I had a list of 12 parts and I barely had enough to go check the score on a football game they had playing there and he had it entered and a receipt waiting for me. Overall...my dealer is AWESOME!

Just my $.02, I guess I'm defending Toyota in a way...actually YEAH I AM!! Not all of the dealers are ˟˟˟˟ty...there are a select few that are though...come over here, mine will get you all set up!

I guess I am lucky. My wifes best friend is the daughter of the Service Manager / co-owner of my dealership. She also works there and they all know my wife so we get the red carpet rolled out when ever we go there. Jump right to the front of the line. It pays to know people. I on the other hand know no one that is very useful.

Drain plug seals not in stock? Anyone wonder what they do if they screw one up on a customers truck? "Sorry, we have to keep your $35K a few extra days while we wait for a $2 seal..."

dealer

My local dealer is awesome, I have never had a problem with them. If they don't have something in stock it is usually a day or two away so when i'm gonna be doing something on my truck i always call days in adavnce of doing the job, that way i never get stuck.

As far as the differencials are concerned, why ues a gasket at all? Why not use Permatex Silicone. I use it on my diff's and it works great. Just be sure to have a super clean surface when you apply it.

Toyota Dealers

Ok Erc, first off man I am sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with your local dealer. However, it is not uncommon for someone to ask what is the exact dimensions are on a gasket, belt, spring, coil, and so forth and the dealership not have them readily available. Most parts departments operate only on software and thus this is not detailed in most of them. I know a lot of people think dealerships are out to only steal their money and could care less if you get what you need. This is simply not the case though for most of us. It is hard to help people that have the attitude that the only thing we want to do is screw them though. In the future if you have a question or want to know something please feel free to email or PM me and I will be happy to help you out any way I can. If you could please limit your descriptions of "Toyota Dealers" to locally or by name it would be greatly appreciated. There are a lot of dealerships out there that do want your business and do want take care of their customers, mine is one of them. I am one of those guys that has a look on his face like he's been trying to get the taste of cat crap out of his mouth for the past 3 days at the front counter (LOL, dude that is horrible man) but I do care if my customers are taken care of. If you still haven't found what you are looking for drop me a line, I can get it and for a hell of a lot cheaper than your local dealer.

I have always wondered why parts straight from the dealer are so expensive. I had to go get a knob cover for my A/C temp control and the freakin thing was over 6 bucks...that just seems rediculous to me. I am willing to pay it though cause I can get it fast and its straight from Toyota but...

Another thing, I need a new cupholder and they said it was 60 BUCKS!!!! WTF?!?!?!

But...on the support side, I love my dealer...I am going there after school today to get a distributor and rotor...hopefully my boy Logan is workin if not I will go back because I admit...the other guys there don't know the driver side from a passenger side on a car but they are still good with people. I have never run into a mad or illtempered (sp?) employee...they may not be the most knowledgeable people in the world but they are sure nice.

I'll let you know how my experience is today after class...

Angry gaskets

Where in N.J.? You can use a little RTV on the old gaskets if your in a pinch. If you bring a sample to your local auto parts store they can probably fix you up . good luck
