I got grease and a grease pump to service my driveshaft. Now. I have read every thread where it says how to grease hooking the pump on the zerks and I have even seen other peoples pics as to where de zerks are but my truck does not have any zerks and here are the pics to prove it. What do i do are they hidden somewhere else???

Your sig doesn't say, but from your pics I am guessing you have a 2WD model. If so, from what I understand, the 2WD drive shafts don't have any zerk fittings, so you can't grease them.

 

yeah is a 2wd the reason why I wanted to grease it is because that clunk noise when in drive while being stopped and every post said that greasing the driveshaft was usually the solution. so if I can not grease it what could I do??

The sound you are describing sounds like "axle wrap" and greasing the driveshaft doesn't not solve it.

Do a search on here and you will find several threads covering real solutions, including AAL's, traction bars and ladder bars to name a few.

 

Bad U-joint that needs replacing?

 

The 4WD rear shaft has a slip joint in the middle of the shaft which needs to be lubricated. The 2wd doesn't have this joint. Suspension travel movement of the driveshaft is acomodated by the splined yoke in the rear of the transmission. This splined connection is self lubricated by the transmission fluid. I'm not sure what is causing your 'clunk'.

 

ok so off the subject...is there another zerks where at least I can use the grease and the pump I bought?? I mean is there something else to grease so I can justify my purchase??

u can take off your plastic steering stop covers and then drive around listening to your truck make a horrible grinding noise from turning, then put a dab of grease on the contact points and the grinding will be gone!

 

You can grease the ball joints, drag link, possibly tie rods and idler arm. If the problem a bad ujoint most replacements offer the zert option. Grab the ujoint firmly and twist back and forth, there shouldn't be any noticable movement.

 

the clunking is most likely that your in need of some u-joints and when you get new ones they will have zerts on them

 

OT does a 87 2 wheel drive 1 ton have grease zerks on the u joint's?

 

I have looked everywhere and there are no zerks on my 2002 2wd

 

Col...You might want to put a short description of your vehicle in your signature. It helps when you're asking us for help with diagnosis. Sorry you bought a grease gun for no purpose, but you're ready for the next 4Runner you get now.

 

My Dad has and '01 auto 4x4 taco, his truck would jerk at a stop. Went to the stealership and the guys told him it was pressure building up in the driveshaft from heat. They drill a small hole in the driveshaft and he said the took care of it. Just a small hole to release the pressure. Don't know if anybody has ever heard of this or not
