Humming noise in 1999 4Runner on Highway
I have a 1999 Toyota 4Runner 4WD Limited with 3.4 L V-6. I had Transmission, Rear Differential, Front Differential, and Transfer case fluids changed out about the middle of last year. Not too much after all that was replaced it seems that there is a sort of humming that I have heard while driving on the highway from speeds of 70-75 mph. Would you possibly have any idea as to what it may be?

Take a really good look at all of your tires. If the leading edges of the tread blocks are worn more than the trailing edges, that could be your problem. It was in my case, and with only16k miles on that set of new tires.

Is there anything you can do to change the hum? Slow down, speed up, coast, accelerate, brake, neutral, turns vs. straights, etc. Have you tried rotating your tires? Was there any junk in the fluid from the transfer case or rear diff? Have you greased your u-joints, slip-joint and CV?
