Hi. I just bought a coleman powermate portable air compressor and I want to mount it in the bed of my 05 tacoma. I want be able to remove it easily but want it to be secure while on the trails. What would be the best way to mount it ?

How big is this thing? I can not think of any good way to mount it to this composite bed of ours.

 

Its pretty small maybe like 1 1/2 feet by like 8".The tank on it is only 2 gal. Im sure I could drill holes into the composit bed and bolt it down but i want it to be able to be portable.

 

Get some carriage bolts/washers and use the drain holes in the front, get some stock steel or AL bars from Lowes/Home Depot and make a frame that lays flat inside the bed. And make up some clamps that will hold it in place aka like ones for a fire extinguisher or some compression straps

 

I was thinking maybee I could use one of the d rings in the back. The compressor has a stand an rubber pads . Maybee I could get some lite duty tie downs and place the compressor over the d ring and anchor it to the d ring. I think this would be the easiest way to do it .The power suply in the bed makes for an easy install.

 

Crap this wont work . The d ring is to much in the corner of the bed. Maybee I can find something similar to d rings that I can perminantly mount to the bed and then use some tie downs to hold it down.

How strong do you think the composit bed is as far a suporting this?

 

If you're worried about the strength of the composite bed in supporting what you're doing, why are you going to drill into it at all? The problem with the plastic bed is that once you do something to it - you're pretty darn committed until you buy a new one (or are really good with JB Weld).

Why do you need it mounted?
Why not mount it into a toolbox? It'll be portable AND you won't have to mess with the bed.

 

I dont really have anywhere to put it. I guess I can keep it in the cab but I would like it to be more secure and outa the way. Im not really concerned about puting a hole in the bed. I just dont want it to crack from the stress.
