How rare is the 4runner 5 speed with E-locker?

Hah, I have a 5spd V6 4X4 E-locked, but it has a big metal bed instead of back seats...'cause it's a taco!...and I think Toyota skimped on the interior quality and the sound-deadening insulation on the Tacomas too... And it sure as hell doesn't have a leather wrapped steering wheel!

I've got one! Since 2000 was the last year Toyota sold 4runners with 5 speed, they may be getting harder to find. Love mine!

Paddlenbike, you're right, they are out there. I'm going to call on the first one you have listed, but I think he's overpriced, as are several others out there. They so go fast, though, since I called on one today that I saw last night on A.T. and it was already sold.

I had one several years ago and wish that I hadn't gotten rid of it. I might try to trade out of the vehicles I currently have for one if the wife will let me, or if I win the lottery!

I emailed the dealer in Paddlenbike's first listing asking if it had the locker, and here's his response:

Hello Rich: Locker was unavailable with 5 speed in '00.
I'd really like to email him back and call b.s. since there are several YT members with 5spd & locker, but I don't like having a flame war with idiots. And he calls himself the 4Runner 5spd expert!

Maybe he means '00 build year, not model year?

Build year runs from approx August to July of the following year, thus the 2000 model year would be in synch with the 2000 build year. They need about a month to retool and let dealers sell out of their current inventory before the new model year vehicles arrive.

Either way, the 2000 model year/build year did offer the 5spd with locker in both 4 & V6 drivetrains.

If the 5-speed / e-locker combination was never available in 2000, then my 4Runner is far more rare than I thought.

Want me to take a picture of the options from both my 1999 and 2000 4Runner brochures? The e-locker was available as part of no less than two option packages and also available as a stand-alone option.

Here's the breakdown:

The Limiteds only have three options--power moonroof, rear heater and rear diff lock.

SR5's have the following available options:
Extra Value Package #1:
A/C, power windows, locks, mirrors, antenna, cruise control, tilt wheel, int. wipers, overhead console w/sunglass holder and map light, am/fm/cd/cassette, floor mats

#2:
#1 plus rear tonneau cover, 2 more speakers (6 total), remote keyless entry

#3:
2wds only. i'm skipping this one

#4:
#2 plus sport seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel and manual shift knob on manual trans, 4.10 rear diff, 13" disc brakes, 265/70R16 tires on alloys (requires chrome wheel arch moulding or color-coordinated flares (they look like Limited flares).

#5:
#4 plus e-locker. (This is how mine is equipped.)

Additional packaged options:
Leather package-seats, door panels, steering wheel, shift knob.
Sport package-color-keyed flares, bumpers and grille, fog lamps, hood scoop, sport seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel & manual shift knob, 4.10 diff, 265/70R16 tires on alloys
Sport package plus rear diff lock

Individual options:
sunroof
alloy wheels
alloy wheels + Limited-like fender flares
alloy wheels + flares + diff lock
rear heater

paddlenbike,

are both your shift knobs leather wrapped, or just the trannsmission?

The transfer case lever does not feel like leather to me; so I would venture to say just the transmission.

I would be curious to know my break down % by year (97). I'm almost embarassed to say I found my 4runner in the cube next door (former coworker). Former owner apparently bought the 4runner sight unseen based on options (4wd, v6, locker, 5 speed, & leather).

Hmm, appears I got 5 plus leather, rear seat heater & sunroof.

I have 1997, 1999 and 2000 brochures at home and the option packages were basically the same.

1996-1998 5-speeds seem more common than 1999-2000 for some reason; wish I had the production numbers.

Here's an online brochure for the 2000 4Runner. See page 3 for options:

I have a 2000 with 5-speed 4WD and the rr diff lock if this is the same as the e-locker. It is not a limited but a SR5 with the sport package.

I also have been searching for a 5spd v6 with locker (preferably sport edition, but i could get over it if it wasnt). I've been checking ebay and autotrader non stop for the last 6 months... one finally came up in new hampshire (i live in west virginia) i told him i wanted it, transfered money the very next day and called him to ask him if he just wanted me to send the downpayment through paypal. Well, for some reason he decided he didnt want to sell it to me, and it was currently being loaded onto a truck to be taken to an auto auction somewhere.... but thats just the way my luck goes. so i guess I'm back to searching for another 6 months

This may be stupid, but does the center diff lock as well while in 4x4, or can you only lock the rears (on the models w/ e-locker)? I have an 02' so my switch only locks the center diff of course, but how would you do it on a 00 with the e-locker?
