Yeah tell me about it. Unfortunately I'm doing a "no lead foot" mileage experiment right now, so my redlining around morons is being curtailed.

As it happens - with the ISR/Deckplate/TB-cleaning/new plugs, and highway driving like I usually do, I'm already up 30-40 miles in the first half of the tank as normal! (this is no bull˟˟˟˟) It really seems like the engine doesn't have to work as hard at highway speeds (makes sense since it's actually quiter with all that crap pulled off the intake) so it takes less power to cruise. The 2nd half of my tank will be city driving with me behaving just to mix it up a little. By my math right now I have a 5mpg improvement over where I was at before without a whole lotta change in my driving habits, which is *significant*. (By my math, on a 15 gal tank, I'm getting 24mpg right now highway, we'll see the difference with city. I will probably go fill up tomorrow AM just to make sure I know what quantity I used...)

Believe me I'm amazed by all of this, and will share my results once they're finished...

 

Every now and then BUT ONLY AFTER A THOROUGH WARM-UP. That usually takes around 10 miles of normal street driving to warm all the fluids. I sometimes bounce off the fuel cut when shifting manually, especially in 1st and 2nd. No worries, though, it's Toyota tough. For example, my IS300 race car has an iron block 2JZ-GE engine famed for it's durability. I've accidentally mis-shifted in the heat of battle, thinking I was going from 3rd to 4th @ redline (and 95 mph), instead catching 2nd for a moment until I realize what happened and de-clutch. I've done the math and figure it hit very close to 10,000 rpm in an engine redlined at 6,800 rpm, with no damage...not even a CEL.

It's pretty easy in 1st gear, if you have an auto, hit the PWR switch.

I shift at redline all the time.

My V6 headgasket finally gave up the ghost at 100,000 miles (which happens regardless of how hard you drive it) and the Toyota mechanic said he had never seen a 100,000 mile block with such little wear and few carbon deposits. Most Toyota engines make their power at a relatively high RPM. You're okay...

We'll see, it's getting harder and harder to find an open straight stretch of road out here within reasonable driving distance. On the bike it's not that hard since I can hit 140 on that thing before my runner would be out of 3rd gear, but getting an SUV to triple digit speeds takes some room!

 

I agree. Its a humbling experience. I actually thought my 4Runner was "quick" until I saw how long it take to go from 90 - 100.

Your right about bikes though. I rode my friends CBR 600 around and hit 125, and thought raising my head above the winshield would be a smart idea. Yeah, I wont do that again.

 

Yeah, I found out when you sit straight up at 140mph, it slows ya down *quick*! I'm not a big dude though so the wind resistance isn't so bad for me. I'm not saying I suggest making a hobby of sitting in tornado-strength winds on the highway, but it is an enlightening experience! I've had that bike up to 165, I didn't dare sit up at that speed tho, I was having a hard enough time seeing past the tears being sucked out of my eyes...

160mph and taking your eyes off the road to take a pic of the odometer sounds like some sort of redneck joke. Excercising your right foot is fun, just make sure it's wired to your cerebellum before you do it.

 

I've seen one of those race videos and it had a supra racing...i think a focus. Both of them were really fixed up. It was somewhere in switzerland i think. They were racing like crazy and had video cameras mounted everywhere. During one of the parts in the video, they show the new body supra zoom by and had a shot of the speedometer. It was going around 300 km/hr!! My friend sent it to me, i think it's a series and the have different cars race all the time. Hmm...was i off topic?

 

Yeah, this was originally about redlining. It appears to have turned into a Top Speed contest. I should have cropped my speed on that pic. It was a bad idea.

People please dont go out there and try and one-up me, or anyone else. I was seriously passing cars, hit 95, and pushed it a little bit more. That's it. I never go that fast, it takes too long.

 

Since this is the talk of the day, here is more impressive one; although I cannot verify whether this was done on the highway or on a dyno. This guy *does* have a dyno sheet to prove he's kicking 773 hp to the rear wheels. To keep it on-topic, he is redlining it.
