how much would a custom bumper bar cost you think?

i was thinking, but im alittle unexperienced in any type of metal works. I wanted to buy a bumper bar for the back of my 4runner for alittle extra protection from the idoit local drivers. (they beileve your done backing up when they bump you, its a car not a bumper play car). So i was looking at the jaos rear skid bar which costs like 650 dollars. What do you guys think it would cost to make something custom? something much smoother is the lines of the bar, and somethign that conforms the the 4runner alittle better? I really dont know how it would be made, but doesnt it just involve bending a metal pipe, then making brackets to attach it to the chassis and welding the 2 together? Ive been looking around to get it dipped in chrome i cant see it being more the 150-200 dollars. You can get a wheel dipped for 125. Someone give me there opinion. Cheaper to buy one pre-manfactured? cost about the same? more?

Thanks Chris

If they're backing up, wouldn't you want it in the front of your 4Runner? Well, I don't know much about custom fabbing, but you could always put in a towball in the rear hitch so they get a nasty hole punched in their bumper and you get a hairline scratch on a tow hitch you don't care about I think some company like GoRhino makes some kind of rear step tube that goes into the hitch as well, and it comes in chrome. Chris,

Using the tow receiver to mount a guard is a good idea. These guys may even have a bumper bar or could make one that mounted in your hitch receiver. http://www.hitch-web.com/.

I think you have to call them about accessories but they have resources at all the major hitch manufacturers and if any of them have what your looking for, I think they could find it.

I talked to a guy named Tony there before and he was really helpful.

Good luck.

There is a rear bumper gaurd made by Performace products for about $200. It's made of metal, and contoured for the 4runner.
