How much oil consumption is normal? The red 93 I was looking at before was a piece of junk. This 95 I may get is in pristine condition except for an oil leak. The owner says she leaks about 1/4 of a quart of oil or so per month. Is that okay? Other than that....she's really nice.

My 90 will lose about 1 qt in 2500 miles. I drive around 1000 miles per month. So you would lose 1 qt in 4 months, and I lose 1 qt in 2 to 3 months. I think it burns it as well as leaks a bit although I have never seen or smelled any oil smoke. I get maybe 1/4 teaspoon of oil drip overnight from the valve covers. It will travel down onto the front diff and drip off of that. The longer it sets, the less it drips. It is messy on the driveway which bums me out. Im been going to look for a drip pan to park over but havent done so yet.

 

Mine leaks too. Front seal and rear seal both, pan gasket too. It's always oily, and it smells like oil when it's hot, but has never dripped a drop on the driveway. I ignore it, I figure with the miles I have the engine will go one day anyway - I'll fix it then... I do spray Gunk on it and hose it off once in a while, but I hate the smell of that stuff too. Mine doesn't seem to burn any oil, never a puff of smoke, until I get about 3000 miles on an oil change. Then it will go through a quart in 500 miles or so. My 85 22RE did the same thing so I don't worry about it.

 

Mine has a minor leak from the distributor seal. It has 45k km (25k miles) since head-gasket, work the dealer, done 1 year ago. 105k miles on truck and uses about a half a litre (half a Quart) between oil changes. Every 2 months 5000km (3000 miles).I never have to add oil in between oil changes, SO I can live with that.

 

my truck seems to stay at about the same level all the time, or loses very little..... it drips some everyday, and its not contaminated either.....
