It's always amazed me how much different the gas prices are up there - it's only 80 miles!

I paid $3.19 for 91 at 7-Eleven (Citgo) on Sunday.

I don't mind the higher gas prices, because frankly I am sick of oversized SUV and Trucks. My 4Runner gets 18MPG, even if gas prices hit $5-6 gallon I still won't complain because it's my choice to drive it. If people choose to drive a Suburban or Expedition they better not so much as fart a complaint about gas prices, it's their choice to drive a 6,000 lbs SUV, no one is forcing them. If they CHOSE to have 7 kids and need a car that big again, that was their choice. I heard people complaining on the news about not being able to take a vacation or road trip because of fuel prices. Come on, if an extra $100 in fuel is going to be the difference on whether to go on vacation or not then perhaps you're not in a financial position to be taking a vacation anyways. My point is this, as a nation we've chosen to ignore energy alternatives for decades, all the while our manufacturers have been having a race to see who can build the biggest SUV and/or cars. USA still has the cheapest gas in the free world, so again, no complaints here, I spent 5 years in Germany spending $5-6/gallon, it's life. They have smaller cars there, and heaps of diesel and propane alternatives, this is just the wakeup call the US needs.

3.23 here in Los Angeles.

Is it me, or has the change in gas formulation caused better mileage? I went from getting 200 per tank to now 240!

Gee, I thought 3rd gens were supposed to do much better than that (athough, I'm sure LA traffic doesnt help). I got 285 out of my last tank (city).

$2.75/gallon in Auburn and Montgomery, AL

Crude went down to $69.90/barrel today and gas futures are down $0.14/gallon in the last week to $1.98/gallon, so prices should come down some, but who knows how long it will stay there.

I agree, it should be doing better! I was averaging 260-270 at first, and it slowly has declined. Then, recently, its much higher. I've done nothing to it (yet) to warrant an increase in mileage. Its a conspiracy I tell ya, a conspiracy!

My plan of action is: Spark plugs, clean O2 Sensor(s), clean MAF, clean throttle body and maybe switch to an aftermarket air filter. I will also be buying new tires, since my Bridgestone AT's are about toast. I am hoping that will help.

Now that's what I'm talkin' about.

Since the recent spike in gas prices, I've implemented a 'no aggression' driving attitude that has increased my mileage signifcantly. I recommend everyone else do the same. Slow accelerations and a calm demeanor.

Oh, and an all-out boycott of exxon mobil.

I have done the same-I have kept my work truck below 70mph, accelerate like a grandma and always keep it below 2000rpm-the result, gas mileage has gone from an average of 15.5-16mpg before up to my last tank at 17.8mpg. This is on a 2004 Z-71 Ext Cab with the 5.3 V8, auto, 4x4 of course, 3.73 gears, 285/75/16 tires, Warn 8274 winch, at least 500 pounds of tools and such, and probably another 200 pounds of mud. About 60% driving interstate, 20% backroads, 15% offroad, 5% city.
