Alright guys, I was wondering what type of set up people are going with to haul tools and equipment from place to place. I built the above box last summer and it has worked out pretty well thus far except for the fact that it rattles around with the stuff in it and well obviously takes up some space. I do like the looks and is a nice set up for the extinguisher and mag-lite but again I am curious to see other people's set ups.

I like to haul tools around because well you never know when you might need something and its good to be prepared (I've seen too many situations that require something and I don't have it!).

Lets see the tool hauling set-ups!

 

Works great, must stink having to waste valuable cargo room in the runner though.

I dont have a taco or runner, but I do have a truck box on my T100 (does anyone post in our forum here?).

Yeah the umbrella holder also makes a good firestik holder too!

Thats some hardcore box you got there, but whatever makes you happy then its all good.

I just have a 20"x10"x6" tool box w/ some standard tools like pliers, metric wrenches, and 3/8" ratchet set. Towing straps in cargo box and flashlight behind front passenger seat for easy access, just incase some fool needs a$$-whoopin

 

How do you "quickly" get the fire extinguisher ready? It looks zip-tied to the holder

ahah...good point, and those zip-ties are pretty hard to yank off.

 

 

Yeah its zip tied cause it shakes around and falls off otherwise. Its actually an old "home fire extinguisher"....I have a set of cutters easily accessible in the box if I need to get to the extinguisher. Obviously its not ideal but eh its better than not having one.

 

i have a truck box, but i dont like it, so for offroading im gonna carry my tools in a hand tool box in the bed, any other time i just carry a few odds and ends in compartments in the back of my pickup

Friend had one in his Mustang. It was easy to use and it held the extinguisher tight.

I just use a couple of different size Rubbermaid Action Packers.

 

I'd love to have a box like that but with a 35 sitting in the back of my 2nd gen there isn't any room. Once I do the chop I hope to figure something out....

 

i second the rubbermaid action packers. I installed 4 eye hooks on the corners of the container and looped a tie down strap through both tie down points that are close to the back seats. hook up each end of both tie down straps to an eyelet and cinch them tight. it holds the container tight up against the backseat and it doesnt move at all.

 

I'm pretty sure if your truck is on fire you will rip that thing out like nobody's business....

Individual tool boxes have always been best for me. I can swith vehicles in a pinch and just grab the box and go. I have one box for tools and one for miscellaneous stuff, like tire plugs, spare wipers and belts...

 

Thats a good point, I do hate pulling stuff out I need and not having any way to easily carry it from car to car or campsite to campsite.

You can pack into Pelican Cases and then strap them down. Thew are water proos and nearly indistructable.
