How can i fix this exhaust problem?

Hey guys I know this is a Toyota site but i know you guys are knowledgable and will give me good suggestions. My wife's 2000 Xterra has been making horrible loud exhaust sounds so I got under and looked and the problem lies where 2 of the pipes meet and the flange joining the 2 pipes has seperated and the gasket is gone thus creating a hole. It looks like it will need a complete new exhaust soon but since it is inspected till May I was wondering if there is an easy way to fix this so i can get a few more months or year out of it. I though of cutting the flange out and then joining the remaing ends of pipe byt slipping bigger pipe over both ends and welding it on. Is this the best way to fix it or am I not thinking of something. Just thought I'd ask you guys how you would go about fixing it.

Something has caused that pipe to seperate.

I see you live in PA, so im going to assume rust is the problem?

No the flange itself is shot no way I could get those bolts off without tearing the flange apart. It is very rusty however the pipes themselves are still rigid and the other flanges look good thats why I thought about trying to patch it first and making it serviceable until the next inspection. It is not hurting performance except for the noise and probly hurting the gas mileage some.

you can cut it and go to auto parts house and get a flex pipe and some u-bolts and insert between the pipes. the flex pipe should fit around the existing pipes.
