Question Hood insulation

Is it all right to run without it with a 3.0? It's not gonna get hot enough to damage the paint or anything right?
just curious..(cuz a friend of mine took it off on their '90 cuz it was lookin crappy/fell off, and mine has been off...)

It won't hurt it. My 97 doesn't have any either. Your engine will run a little cooler without it as well.

Funny that you say that Jason, there is a very significant difference on the temp gauge between my 96 and 98. (The 96 is cooler)

I wonder if this is part of the reason...?

It IS to some degree if not all. I remember Ron, who didn't have the insulation and added it later. He reported a temp increase on the gauge as well.

Once again, it seems we have to remind Cebby that this forum is frequented by children and females.... and they may not want to see you "pull it off".... clean it up little mister, clean it up!

My '98 came without it. I was wondering if the factoring distributes crack at lunch time to the assembly line people or if it just wasn't supposed to get one. maybe the crack distribution is why a lot of us have leaky rear axle seals.

Somebody on this internet thing said it's actually sound insulation, not heat insulation. I'm just passing on rumors...

I guess I'd better leave it on. The K&N FIPK already sounds like its going to jump through the hood as it is.

Pressure washing the engine is a real pain with that insulation on the hood too. I personally like it much better without.

Its odd. Some vehicles have it, and some dont. Heck, my '79 Supra had it.

Someone needs to find out what this stuff is REALLY for.

Krash,
I dont really know anybody in town who does a really good job.
I've been to Bill Etscorns (sp?) on Buchel Bypass, to get a door replaced on my ex-Subaru. They managed to get some sort of black crap all over the place (including my seats). The paint looked ok, but they didnt get the window stuff put together right, and it was generally a poor job quality-wise.

I've also been to a shop across the river in New Albany (I forget the name - but its on Mount Tabor Rd) to have my ex-Ranger painted. The paint looked great, but 3 years later, it is peeling off all over the place.

So my opinion is they all suck!

Kinda like when the dog poops in the yard in the dead of winter, it steams for a little while.

Yeah I found out that this girl I'm pretty good friends with at work, her husband likes to paint cars. Now I just gotta find someone to do the body work, cause she said he hates doing body work and there is one place (where a moron tried to pop out the rear window with a crow bar) I would rather have a body shop fix.
