I found a small pic:
VERY interesting... I'd say that it's definitely sourced from the same mfg.
okay... I have to at least find out what the "spare" switchpad in there controls.
More info...

If that thing is plastic, you can match your interior with SEM vinyl dye. Very easy and durable.

Well, I'm back with another unit, if anyone is still interested! It's the same exact set-u that was sold to midiwall, so his write-up should help everyone interested. The auction will be starting tomorrow, so make sure you find it before it finds you OUT OF TIME!!

The install was PAINFULLY easy. Only about an hour on my truck (3rd gen with a sun roof), which included time to figure stuff out.
You have to cut the opening in the headliner another inch or so, and when you do - you find that the mounting bolt hole in the console lines up PERFECTLY with one used in the stock console. Then, there are two tabs on the front of the console that fit perfectly into holes. Then (and this is the best part) the connector for the sunroof controls is exactly the same (mechanically and electrically) as that on the Surf console!
Two things to point out...
Kudos to theREALjdmSURF (Don) for a clean deal and all the legwork he did in figuring out the wiring. (Oh, and I stole his nighttime pic of the display)

Then (and this is the best part) the connector for the sunroof controls is exactly the same (mechanically and electrically) as that on the Surf console!
Two things to point out...
- The sunroof portion of the Surf console requires a source of constant 12v for the map lights. This is easily obtained from the old 12v connector that was used for the original map lights. In fact, you can do like I did and pop the pin out of the stock connector, do a bit of mashing on it, and it will fit into the open spot on the Surf connector. Voila... Done!
- The rearview mirror hanger is another "built in" solution between these trucks. On the stock 3rd gens, the mirror is on a metal plate that doubles as the holder for the original map lights. 3 minutes with an angle grinder and you can separate out the "mirror portion" of the plate. That plate will now work as a stand-alone mirror hanger that fits perfectly into the cutout provided on the Surf console.

Including a wiring diagram for those finding this info via a search.
edit: (5.16.2006)Code:
Console Target BLUE/YELLOW Constant 12V WHITE/RED Switch 12v (ignition) GREEN/ORANGE Speed sensor (use DIFF LOCK ECU, pin 10, green/orange) GREEN to dash light dimmer _output_ BLUE outside temp sensor (either lead) YELLOW/BLACK outside temp sensor (either lead) WHITE/BLACK ground
A couple of points of interest for those looking to do this mod.
- The compass has fairly large steps of 22.5*, so you'll get 16 compass points.
- The compass _is_ magnetic, but it will only update when it detects the vehicle moving (fwd or rev) so you HAVE to hook up the speed sensor.
- The backlight on the display is sensitive to the headlights in a "weird" way (it's relative to ground, not hot). If you _don't_ hookup the headlight sensor, the backlight will be VERY dim. When you do hook it up, get the output of the dash dimmer and it will dim with your dash lights.
