high revs

my cold idle is anywhere between 1700-2400rpm. It's very annoying and loud. Is there a way I can lower it? Any help is great as my girlfriend is ready to ship my truck to the junkyard. Thanks.

One of my scumbag neighbors doesn't like the high idle either. He wanted to call the police for noise pollution. He thought I did it out of spite. When I worked different hours, it would wake him up so he said.

ok, guess I should ask the obvious question... is the high idle normal?? If not, how can I fix it??

Its always high on mine when I first start it in cold weather, it eventually evens out after sitting a while, or goes away right away when I start to drive. Its either normal, or we both have the same problem, lol

high idle when cold is normal. I don't think you can turn it down and even if you could it would be bad. Your engine needs to reach operating temperature. If it doesn't reach operating temperature and you push it too hard something is gonna break

it is supposed to idle high in open loop operation where the ECU ignores the output from the O2 sensor.... Now mine has NEVER idled higher than about 1800 rpm even when it was 18* outside.... Any higher than that is kinda wierd....lol

your fast idle(at least on a 22R) is supposed to be around 1900RPM

now, if only i could get a stiffer return spring since the one i have is wimpy and won't always kick back down to idle unless i slap the pedal...

I think that 2400 is a touch high and would have that checked.

mine does that too. i was wondering if that was normal. it seems like if i just tap the pedal and give it a little rev than it will go down to normal. i assumed something was sticking. i asked my mechanic and he said that it was the cold idle and was normal. i dont know. it is kind of annoying though.

Mine idles around 2000 rpm for 5 minutes or so....then steps down to around 1000 RPM in a couple of sequences. My truck is a 93 22RE and I'm assuming the cold idle is ECM controlled.
