Now i have searched the forum and havent found anything that actually helped me. I have a v6 tacoma 4wd, 4inch lift and 31's. I live in cape may, NJ and it has been getting colder here and my squeal has been getting longer and louder. It happens when i first start the engine ( everytime). It will typically squeal for about 30 seconds and then stop. It has just started and i am the newest owner of this truck, the previous owner didnt own it last winter so he doesnt know. The clutch was replaced not to long ago and the mechanics around here havent found anything wrong with the throw out bearing. I'm sure its one of the belts but havent ever worked on a toyota ( only ford and jeep) Any help would be appreciated. And i will work on my profile or lack of at the moment. could be anything that has a bearing in it that spins with the engine, such as the water pump, alternator, power steering pump, and so on, i would have someone start it while you have the hood popped, then listen and try and see where the noise is coming from. also check to see how tight your belts are

 

Sounds like maybe a belt squealing and that's an easy fix. Check the belt tension, and check the condition for cracks. If in doubt, you might as well just replace all three belts. If you can replace a belt on a Ford or Jeep, you can replace them on a Taco.

 

I'd say it is the water pump. I had the exact same problem/noise issue with my 02. I took it in to the dealer to get my timing belt replaced, and also to have the water pump replaced at the same time, and they located a leak in my water pump, and after getting the car back, the squeal was gone. Hope this helps

 

I'm going to go with timing belt. The belt is cold and stiff so offers little expansion when in movement, hence when it warms up so does the belt, loosening it up and offering a little expansion to move easily. Typically the water pump and belt are done at the same time, but when I got my belts changed earlier this year I held off on the water pump and its still working like a champ. Good luck

 

I'm going with a simple belt...alternator or power steering. Just get it tightened or new. When its cold, the belt has less friction, and squeels until it warms up again.
