Hesitation on acceleration

Hesitation on acceleration

I have a 97 5spd 3.4L Tacoma, I'm getting either hesitation or slipping during acceleration in the higher RPM's in 3rd and 4th gear when I let off the gas and then accelrate slowly it will go fine it isn't a major issue yet, but it is a real annoyance. What could be the culprit? Clutch, Tranny, Engine? (the truck runs great other than this little issue) Anyone else experience this or have any ideas that I could check?

is it an engine miss? check your plugs, coils, injectors. Hard to diag something like that without driving it

Yeah I kinda figured it would be tough to diag. I thought that there might be a common issue but I'll just have to work through it I guess. I'm not sure if it is a miss or not the truck just looses the power and gets slightly jerky until I let it off the gas. It has ~117k miles and I think it probably has never had a clutch put in (I'm not sure what a failing clutch would feel like, I know once it is out it won't drive but how would one know when it needs replaced [i.e. the tell tale signs]). So thats what I was originally thinking but then the loss of power was weird too. I don't think it had the 90/100k service and I was going to slowly perform that as I get the money it sounds like plugs and wires will be first on the list to swap out...

yes. do the tuen first. Dont worry about plug wires yet. If you have money laying around go ahead and replace them but for now I would do plugs and a air filter and see how it feels. These things have a history of coils and injectors going south as well. Best to do what you know it needs then proceed with the diag

By tune-up you mean fluid flushes, filter changes, and plugs right?
Anything else to think about to ensure reliability that is my major goal. I just bought the truck and now I'm trying to do all I can to ensure it runs another 120k...

i would just replace the spark plugs make sure u use oem ones maybe the wires too ? and clean the maf sensor and replace the air filter

Hey,
sounds like the spark plugs to me aswell.... VERY Common for our 3.4 engines as the plugs are spec'd out for only 30K miles, the hesitation you are experiancing is likley misfiring .... gook luck denso or NGKs duel electrode only....try not to get fancy by using bosch platnum or similar plugs our enigine are picky about the plugs

I know it has been a while but I figured I would update the thread and say that the tune up worked no more misfire. New plugs, wires and TB cleaning did wonders
