3.0 vs 3.4
What is the hp advantage of that install of the 3.4??? you must have to have a doner truck to get it out of i would think you would have to change the wiring harness ,ecm and what ever else you need??? i think i would go with something with a little more hp like a buick v6!!!

Putting a Buick motor in a 4Runner is like putting a pigs heart in a human...

I agree 100% with keeping it 100% toyota but building a buick V6 to produce 320hp n/a and very very reliable is a hell of a lot cheaper than trying to pull that out of a toyota V6. the hp you can get (approx 40hp 3.0 to 3.4) by doing that swap is not worth my time or money (unless that engine was free)but i still agree keeping it 100% toyota. there is some thing to be said (bragging rights) when a 100% toyota out wheels a full blown chevy or ford with 800+hp on the same size tires. I have seen it done many of times

That engine looks stuffed in there.
Course, the 3.0 doesn't exactly offer a whole lotta room either :pat:
I'm still mulling around the idea of getting a 1st gen. If I did, I'd swap either a 3RZ or a 5VZ.

I speak of a 231 buick V6 or better yet a grand national V6 twin turbo. i have seen 302 and 350 shoe horned into toys but it is not worth the head ache and the the problems you have after the install mainly over heating and try changing the plugs now that is tight compared to a 3.0

When I think about my 3.0 after I've put the 2 1/4 cat-back exhaust in it I'm fairly happy. I can only ever see myself needing 200 hp for wheeling and accelerating uphills. 200 is the max I'd like/need in my Toyota and I hear that over that is where you start breaking drivetrain stuff.
Swapping the 3.4 in is a very good idea if you're gonna swap at all. It offers a supercharger option and it's better on fuel than the 3.0.
That's why I was so pumped about that post!

Warren

I hope he updates his site often and that he documents the install as I'm sure there are plenty of us pondering this route..I know I am, just didn't want to be the guinea pig.

Has anyone checked out this guy's site: www.supracharged.com He swapped out his 3.0 4runner for a 7MGTE supra engine. I think he said he is getting close to 400ft lbs of torque and almost that in HP. That's with the boost up to 12psi. The number would be around 250HP w/ boost @7psi. His web site is really detailed.

offroadsoultions
go to www.offroadsolutions.com...they have done the swap in the killer 95runner, and have the wireing harness to use with a 2nd gen body and interior.. They plan to have the full swap kit out this spring.
Also the motor size is the same as a 3.0, so its gonna fit the same, I have heard of issues with hood clearance in a1st gen, but only from one guy.
The swap, I feel, is very worth the time, for reliabity and economy. The 3.4 is a very efficant motor, and if you watch your foot is can be very efficant S/C as well. I know several tacoma owners the routinly get 18 on the hwy, with 33's and no-regear...and they make my poor 22re look like its standing still on the hills.
I WANT POWER!!!

With my modifications and gizmos on my supercharged 3.4L, I consistantly achieve 18-20 mpg city/highway.
I installed a new gizmo last week and got almost 22 mpg. And that was slow-n-go driving because of snow. I'm really anxious to see what it gets on the highway.

Twin turbo eh? What year did those come?
GN's used a single turbo, and to yeild hp like you are talking required things like intercoolers, fuel systems, and a stand alone. You really can't even begin to compare the two engine for build quality or reliability. Also, the GN 6 banger didn't exactly make much low end torque until the turbo came on...not really what you want for towing and other neat things trucks are made to do.
I definately applaud the guy for doing the 3.4l swap!!
Anything to get rid of that 3.0 is a good thing.
