Helpme decide how to spend my $$$!

Later in life i would love a nice Evo, but that is MANY years down the road.
Unless someone knows of a nice looking/performing car for 2 - 3 grand? I pretty much do it to mine or nothing and i have been bitten by the power bug, i MUST HAVE MORE POWER! LOL

dont get me wrong. i love 4runners.. but if i were you, id look elsewhere to fulfill your need for speed. its an suv.. not a racecar. my 4runner is basically stock.. but i have a 300zx twinturbo that im putting together right now that should run high 11's. the way it should be. lol

I would love an RX-7, Evo, Supra (oh yeah, would love that) or a few others, but all of those are $$$$$. So they will just have to wait, though you do make a good point.
MAYBE i should save (unlikely) up and spend a little $$ to get everything else in my truck the way i want it and then get something else later.

TA, a 2nd gen RX-7 would be in your price range. I wouldn't spend money just because I have it. I'd make sure all my bills were paid off and look at saving towards a nice townhouse or something. (This based on a huge assumption on my part that you live at home. I apologize if I'm incorrect...)

What year Z?! I had a 91TT.

Through i will admit that in the world of "sport" cars i only know them by there specs and what i have read and seen. I have never owned a "sport" car.
And no, i don't live at home. I actually own my own buissness and work virtually 24/7 on that. Each year i get a little "extra" cash that i give myself to play with. most of the time it goes into my cars or paintball supplies.
I am actually quite good with money, I pay for everything with Cash and HATE credit cards with a passion. I also know that i need to keep busy to stay out of trouble, working on my truck tends to do that.

I second that on the Supra!!! In another life my brother and I got into the turbo Toyotas. I had a '88 Celica GT-4 (AWD, turbo charged 3S-GTE 4cyl), and he had a MK-III and a MK-IV Supra. The MK-IV was SO EASY TO WORK ON!!! We spend about $1500 and did all the work ourselves in the garage and it was sitting at 440 hp. I would point you to the second gen GT-4, but those ended in '92 I believe so they would be getting pretty old now (didn't import the Gen-3 to the states). For an AWD car, I would go for the Evo. I saw one up here and I drooled all over myself!

i think i've got my 3rd gen about 95% of where i want it, so last month i got an '85 4runner that i'm going to sort of restore and fix up but still keep it beatable at the same time. not going to do a huge lift and tires, i'll be using this for my summer cruiser/DD for most of the year (good weather) and switch to my reliable '98 for winter/4X4 driving. i know that' sounds weird to keep the old beater in storage and break out the NICE car for winter, but i want to make sure i get where i need to when it's -20 and 2 feet of snow, and until i get the '85 reliable i don't want to be stuck on the side of the road freezing. plus, that removable top is going to be awesome for summer
i've never had a need for speed so i can't comment on your wanting to beef up the 3.4L, but i do like your decision to go 1st gen along with the 3rd gen. check craigslist?

the 2nd gen RX-7 are the "boxy" l looking ones right? I am not real hip on those, i like the last model before they quit making them a lot better.

I was into cars/bikes before I got my truck. I, along with many others, dreamed of a MKIV Supra, but had to settle for a twin turbo Z due to the F&F market value inflation. Tough to get financing for a car that has a book value of 17,000 but a market value that is nearly double.
FYI, an RX-7 (turbo) and our trucks could not possibly be on further ends of the spectrum as far as reliability.

I would not mind the MK-III though i don't know how the engine is. I know like you said the MK-IV engine is easy to work on and can gets loads of power but don't know squat about the MK-III.

And yes i have checked EVERYWHERE for a truck but there is just nothing around me that is near my price range. And everything for other places is either way to high as well, has rust (which i have NO clue about how to deal with) or the shipping would make it way to much.
Only thing i can find for a reasonable price is an older bronco, they are a dime a dozen down here. 1st gens go for $3K - $4K down here.

Third Gen was the 7M-GTE engine. Straight six with single turbo. Same turbo as what my Celica but had a larger housing. Forgot the number of it, something like "CT-26" or something like that. That engine was famous for blown headgasket. I "THINK" there was a recall on it and it was replaced with a metal headgastet if I remember right. As for the MK-IV, they are a straight six (not the same one), twin turbo. The last year for them coming to the states was '97 I think. Here is some pics of them...
Crap, I hate this small pic upload on here. Let me post to my photobucket and I'll edit this thread in a bit....

Only way i could even get another car at all would be if it was dirt cheap, like under a grand cheap.

As for Supras, I would say the MK-IV or nothing... They have to be coming down in price. My brothers was listed for $45K new but he got it for $25K. That was a few years ago. Oh yeah, and the Targa Tops were quite common on them.

And some of my old Celica... I still miss that car... I LOVED That car....

How's this for a full engine compartment...

What's the going price for them (the MK-IV) down there? I know a few people sold theirs for the new 350Z when it came out. Don't ask me why, I wouldn't have... That 350Z was nice, but....
Now I've seen several of the MK-II Supras with the 7M-GTE engine in them... HOLY SMOKES would those get up and go!!!

The 185s (second gen, first gen were 165s) are air cooled intercoolers. The first gen was water cooled intercoolers. But that '91 isn't bad. The first gen (only about 2500 were in the states) are several grand cheaper.
