help..suggestions

1) Does anyone suggest a particular mud flap? I'm going to remove all my stock fender trim/molded flaps/running boards...and replace it with polished stainless steel fender trim w/ chrome nerf bars- so, as was suggested on the forum, i also need to purchase mud flaps. Any particular brand i ought to purchase?

2) Head Units:...as far as i know, Alpine is supposed to be the best...anyone have any suggestions as far as head units go? Best kind..good deals...best type?

THAAANKS y'all!

As far as head units, I have lived by Pioneer. They are awesome quality and last very long. Not too many problems and easy to operate. There are right up there with the Alpine brand. I totally recommend them! :fireman:

Hey, I had a new pioneer p7300, but i was not impressed with the sound quality of it so i switched to an Alpine. It is much better now, but the pioneer was a lot easier to work. Hope that helps.

I have a really sweet Clarion HU that just kicks ass.

First off, I paid $350 for an $800 head unit as it was a returned piece.

It has more functionality than I would ever need, I can run as many CD changers as I can afford via a clever 'multiplexing' digital link, the face plate is metal , not plastic and sound quality is incredible.

The only down side is the model I bought, "HX-D10 limited edition" is sub out only meaning it has no on-board amplification at all. It does make up for that with four (count them) sub outs, all individually controllable from the HU.

It is digital radio ready and just looks plain cool.

In short, I LOVE CLARION....read the reviews on the audio boards...every else loves Clarion too !

(P.S> David V with the incredible Stainless Steel Sub box has a Clarion HU)

Hey, I think that the pioneer is a great headunit, but once you put in higher end speakers and a four chanel amp in, the alpine just seems to sound better. And my alpine plays MP3s.

I love my alpine too, the sound quality is amazing as well, it has completely changed the life of the sound systems in my last two cars. After installing it, I didn't even bother with replacing the speakers or getting an external amp. Plus mine has an angle adjustment which is kinda cool sine the unit is on the lower side in the runners . But I agree with nrgetic99 in that clarion does kick ass, if I had the choice i'd go with one of the two. I don't really like the looks of the newer alpines (unless you get the LCD screen Either way, you will make your stock speakers sound better and allow more flexibility in your car's audio by getting a headunit. Good luck!

--on the mud flaps... Jaos makes some pretty sweet ones...

I don't have a price range..i'll go as high as i feel the need to....looks like alpine and clarion deems most appealing.

As for making my own mud flaps...haha, i wouldn't stand a chance. I'm not that crafty!

Has anyone ever removed toyota stock fender trim before? It appears to be glued on..i anticipate that i may run into some problems with it..?

If i were to buy a head unit...scenario 1) I buy the normal size head unit...is there just an open space above or below it? B/c currently it appears that my Cd playaer and what not is twice the size of a headunit..

scenario 2) can i buy the headunits that are double in size? Will that fit in my runner? Any help?

If you go to Crutchfield they have a sizing chart that will tell you which size will fit in your vehicle. Check that out. They are alot of help there. I am not sure if a DDin will fit in your truck, so I don't want to say either way! Check that out! :fireman:

Hey C2,

Yup..you can buy double din headunits.

or...

You can put a single din HU in there and fill the left over space w/ a bunch of different things...

You can put a plain ol' bin in there for storage...
...can put an equalizer in there...
...CB radio...
...few other things...

One day, when I finish saving my pennies I'm going to get an Alpine... that's just my preference...but I hear Clarion is great too... and there are lots of other great brands....

If you are replacing only the HU, the Alpine CDA-7894 is nice. It has a built-in 60W amp and it plays MP3's...

I have heard that you can actually use the OEM Tacoma Mud Flaps with a little modification. I think phong has done this with really good results!

The Jaos mudflaps are pretty cool, but expensive ... maybe around $300.00. I think that Jason B. would probably give you the best price on Jaos stuff, maybe he can chime in here and confirm the price.

Thanks a lot for all the information fellas...it's certainly making things easier...

I think the double sized head units would look better...just b/c there's more to it..and would fill the entire space...however in all actuality, the only reason they're bigger is b/c they also have a tape player...which i'd never everrr need to use..filling that space w/ something sounds intrigueing...CB is a cool idea, but i'd never have use for it..cept maybe to play around. Actually..that does sound kind of appealing...haha- i hate to sound like a real amateur...but what's an equalizer? I'm not familiar with that?

And.. I like the Jaos mud flaps...but i hate their self advertisement..the huge JAOS on the backs of the them turns me away...but i still need to look into the mud flap scenario.

I feel the same way about Jaos stuff, they could be a little more subtle with their name, IMO I think it ruins a lot of their stuff, because it does seem like top quality gear ... it's just Jaos splattered so big on everything annoys me!

I have an Alpine in dash 3 disc changer and an Alpine 11 band digital E/Q with BBE. I love this setup.

Ohh, here are the Jaos flaps. Yes, people will see the "JAOS" on them, hehe.
